Job Summary
Summary
Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security within U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Professional Responsibility Security Operations Directorate Security Management Division Physical Security Branch located in Dallas TX.

The purpose of this position is to lead guide and oversee a team of Physical Security Specialists in the evaluation implementation and enhancement
of physical security measures to protect CBP personnel facilities and assets while aligning regional security initiatives with national strategic goals and ensuring compliance with established standards and best practices.
This position starts at a salary of $136736.00 (GS-14 Step 1) to $177762.00 (GS-14 Step 10).
The Major Duties for the position are listed below but not limited to:
- Providing guidance and regularly communicates with direct reports the Branch Chief (Rater) and CBP leadership within the area of responsibility on a daily or weekly basis.
- Applying a thorough understanding of security principles and risk management methodologies to practically implement security technologies and advise the team on work assignments.
- Providing oversight for the team by setting clear expectations regularly evaluating performance and offering recurring feedback to ensure goals are met.
- Aligning regional security activities with OPRs strategic direction and CBPs broader security goals ensuring regional efforts support national CBP strategic objectives and reinforce the connection between regional initiatives and CBPs overarching mission.

Qualifications
Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level performing duties such as:
- Providing direction on complex security matters while ensuring adherence to established guidelines and best practices.
- Encouraging and incorporating feedback to help the region meet and exceed the goals of the Physical Security Branch (PSB) Security Management Division (SMD) and OPR.
- Regularly conveying the strategic objectives of PSB SMD and OPR to subordinates emphasizing their importance to CBP and how individual contributions align with the mission.
- Actively seeking ways to improve team performance and output ensuring the region operates effectively and supports OPRs overarching goals. Providing direction on complex security matters while ensuring adherence to established guidelines and best practices.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
You must:
- Meet all qualification requirements including education if applicable to this position subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and
- Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 02/06/2026.
Background Investigation: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is a federal law enforcement agency that requires all applicants to undergo a thorough background investigation prior to employment in order to promote the agencys core values of vigilance service to country and integrity. Residency: There is a residency requirement for all applicants not currently employed by CBP. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. If you do not meet the residency requirement and you have been physically located in a foreign location for more than two of the last five years you may request an exception to determine if you are eligible for a residency waiver by meeting one or more of the following conditions:
- Working for the U.S. Government as a federal civilian or as a member of the military
- A dependent who was authorized to accompany a federal civilian or member of the military who was working for the U.S. government
- Participation in a study abroad program sponsored by a U.S. affiliated college or university
- Working as a contractor intern consultant or volunteer supporting the U.S. government

Additional information
Travel: You may be required to travel for this position.
Security Clearance: You may be required to obtain a TOP SECRET or higher level clearance for this position.Drug Testing: This job has been identified as testing designated under our Drug-Free Workplace Program. Therefore you must satisfactorily complete a drug test prior to being hired. The agency will schedule provide and pay for the drug test. Once on board you will be subject to random drug testing.
Supervisory Probationary Period: You may be required to serve an 18 month probationary period upon appointment.
Leadership Training: All newly appointed first-time CBP Supervisors are required to complete mandatory training. The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment. The duration of the training will include 3 weeks of in residence training in Harpers Ferry WV. Note: This training may be waived if previously completed. The work may require domestic or foreign travel for extended timeframes.
