The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Clinical Access has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Patient Access Specialist.
Core Job Summary:
This is a budgeted replacement Patient Access Specialist position that is critical to continue operations and maintain service levels at our Coral Gables Dermatology location. This practice is open M-F 7:00AM-7PM and occasional Saturdays. It also supports all the on-site and remote upfront revenue cycle and clinical support functions including Check-in/out Pre-service and Coordination of Care and is essential to process patients promptly and avoid operational clinic flow bottlenecks. Failure to fill this position will have a negative impact on patient and provider satisfaction clinic patient flow physicians schedules up-front collections and overtime costs including RNs and clinical staff. Mrs. Jennifer Pineda has resigned due to personal reasons.
Core Responsibilities:
Obtains confirms and enters demographic financial and clinical information necessary for financial clearance of scheduled patient accounts.
Contactspatients families or physicians offices to obtain missing insurance information.
Verifies insurance and confirms insurance eligibility of patient coverage benefits notifying patient and referring physician in the event of failed eligibility.
Collaborates with scheduling departments toidentifyadd-on patients.
Obtains necessary authorizations pre-certifications and referrals.
Notifies patientsofliabilities prior to date of service and collects funds.
Maintainsappropriate records files andaccuratedocumentation in the system of record.
Serves as a lead resource for lower-level Patient Services staff.
Recommendsnew approachesto management for enhancing performance and productivity.
Deploys critical thinking while responding to a variety of technical issues from patients physicians and employees via phone email web messages fax or email.
Works independently and deals effectively with stress due to heavy workload and the handling of complex patient inquiries.
Serves as a role model facilitator and coach in developing a culture of compassion and caring through building healthy relationships among staff patients and families.
Projects a professional appearance and pleasant demeanor creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

High school diploma or equivalent required

Any relevant education certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
