Job Summary

The Academic-Practice Partnerships Manager serves as a liaison between the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) affiliated professional and technical nursing education institutions to advance the mutual interests of involved parties including the enhancement of academic-practice partnerships advancement of student clinical education and establishment of recruitment pipelines. The Manager  collaborates with nurse leaders professional development specialists faculty from nursing education institutions and leaders from Human Resources Recruitment and Talent Acquisition to achieve the goals of UMMS academic-partnerships.

Primary Responsibilities

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job responsibilities performed.

  • Manage processes tools and organizational resources to monitor and sustain academic-practice partnership programs and education affiliation agreements to advance the academic progression of UMMS nurses and nurse leaders. Prepare written reports to UMMS Nursing Program Director and faculty from nursing education institutions.
  • Coordinate clinical and practicum placements of students at UMMS. Advise students before during and after the process. Collaborate with UMMS nurse leaders on the planning coordination and execution of capacity assessment for the clinical and practicum placement of students from these programs orientation of students and clinical instructors and monitoring of unit/faculty/student relations.
  • Serve as the liaison between UMMS Nursing and professional and technical nursing educational institutions. Establish and sustain collaborative relationships between practice and academia with targeted regional and national nursing programs and based on priorities established by the UMMS Chief Nurse Executive.
  • Collaborate with Legal partners to establish and maintain student affiliation system agreements including contracts BAAs and all other legal forms dealing with nursing and all healthcare programs to ensure compliance with current regulatory standards. Disseminate this information broadly to program and nurse leaders and provide guidance and direction where changes are necessary to respond to current requirements.
  • Collaborate with UMMS Nursing Program Director UMMS Chief Nursing Officers and UMMS nurse leaders to develop and implement system-wide initiatives to improve recruitment and retention of nursing students.
  • Evaluate and resolve student and clinical instructor feedback and ensure appropriate action is taken to the satisfaction of the student clinical instructor school and/or regulatory agencies in compliance with policy procedures and legal requirements.
  • Sustain collaborative partnership with Human Resources Recruitment and Talent Acquisition in the development and execution of targeted recruitment activities with regional nursing education institutions and technical programs. Participate in recruitment fairs at nursing education institutions. Collaborates with nurse leaders to place prospective hires.
  • Collaborate with UMMS clinical coordinators to align roles practices and policies to enhance execution and sustainability of academic-practice programs.
  • Foster internal awareness of UMMS academic-practice partnership programs by serving as a central conduit for dissemination to and from nursing education institutions and UMMs nurse leaders.
  • Participate in statewide and regional collaboratives to identify opportunities to advance student clinical education at UMMS.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Education & Experience - Required

  • Bachelors degree.
  • At least five (5) years of progressively responsible clinical and professional work experience including one (1) year in a leadership role involving academic program development and coordination.

Education & Experience - Preferred

  • At least five (5) years of work experience in nursing nursing operations or student clinical placements.
