Job Summary

Summary

Delivers knowledge-based care to assigned clients while developing technical skills. Assesses plans implements and evaluates the effectiveness of the Veterans care. Serves to support delivery of high quality timely care to the Veteran receiving services in the community. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.


Duties

PRACTICE: Knowledge of professional nursing practice and the ability to apply the nursing process (assessment diagnosis outcome identification planning implementation and evaluation) with close supervision.

3. Knowledgeable of ethical issues related to professional nursing practice and follows established policies of the practice setting VA and ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
4. Aware of high reliability principles to deliver consistent care and improve patient outcomes.

LEADERSHIP: Communicates collaborates and utilizes leadership principles to perform as an effective member of the interprofessional team.
Expectations:
1. Demonstrates positive effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Incorporates educational resources/opportunities and self evaluation for professional growth.

2. Responsible for maintaining competency to continue personal and professional growth.

EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICE/RESEARCH: Awareness of evidence-based practice/research to improve quality of care and resource utilization.

3. Demonstrates knowledge of specific unit level performance improvement activities.

Pay: Competitive salary regular salary increases potential for performance awards

The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing. S/he may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium dementia or psychiatric disorders. S/he must be a mature flexible sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations and able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Applicants must possess the mental and physical ability to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment. Physical requirements may involve lifting carrying pulling pushing reaching above shoulder walking standing sitting kneeling and repeated bending.

    Additional information

    Note: Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) prior to assuming clinical duties. The BLS requirement is satisfied by successfully completing an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Healthcare Provider Course or Military Training Network (MTN). The ACLS requirement is satisfied by attaining and maintaining current status through an approved AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support Course. No online certifications will be accepted.

    VHA Vaccination Program Requirements Seasonal Influenza Program Pursuant to VHA Directive 1192.01 Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a condition of employment and a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). It is a requirement that all HCP to receive annual seasonal influenza vaccination or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons. Wearing a face mask is required when an exemption to the influenza vaccination has been granted. HCP in violation of this directive may face disciplinary action up to and including removal from federal service.

    HCP are individuals who during the influenza season work in VHA locations or who come into contact with VA patients or other HCP as part of their duties. VHA locations include but are not limited to VA hospitals and associated clinics community living centers (CLCs) community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) domiciliary units Vet centers and VA-leased medical facilities. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed clinical and administrative remote and onsite paid and without compensation full- and part-time employees intermittent employees fee basis employees VA contractors researchers volunteers and health professions trainees (HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities. HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents interns fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care.
