Deputy Prosecuting Attorney
County Services Section
Civil Division

The County Services Section of the Civil Division has an opening for a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney (DPA) interested in advising and representing the King County Assessors Office in tax assessment appeals. The attorney will represent the King County Assessor in property tax matters before the Washington State Board of Tax Appeals and related Superior Court proceedings. This position provides legal advice and advocacy regarding property valuation assessment methodology and compliance with Washington tax statues and case law. This role requires civil litigation talents including negotiation skills and the ability to collaborate closely with appraisers and county officials. Proficiency in excel would be an asset along with an interest in financial and appraisal data. The attorney will also provide back-up representation to other County clients including the Jail.

Job Duties


The attorney will support and be supported by an experienced team of attorneys who represent many departments of County government that provide core governmental services such as the Assessor the Jail the Sheriff the Health Department the Department of Community and Human Services and Animal Control. Civil attorneys provide legal advice on all operational issues faced by these clients including regulatory compliance public records and contracts. These same attorneys provide legal representation in court when the actions of these County agencies are challenged.

Experience Qualifications Knowledge Skills


  • Experience working with expert witnesses
  • Effective legal research and statutory interpretation skills
  • Timely case management skills
  • Trial or appellate experience
  • Basic proficiency in excel
  • Enthusiasm initiative and an ability to successfully lead a team on complex matters.
  • Outstanding analytical abilities.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills are critical.
  • Demonstrable commitment to race equity and social justice including continued development of personal cultural humility/competence and active participation in PAO RESJ work attending trainings and discussions.

Supplemental Information

Salary: $89416.91 - $148165.68 annually commensurate with experience
