Organization: SEIU-West

Location: Saskatoon Saskatchewan (primarily onsite with some travel within the Province)

Status: Full Time out of scope

Compensation: Approximately $100000 annually (commensurate with experience) plus extensive employerâpaid benefits fully funded pension plan and monthly car allowance

About the role

Reporting to the President and working as a member of the senior leadership team the Employment Relations Manager provides internal human resources and employee relations leadership for SEIUâWests staff group of approximately 50 employees. The role focuses on HR policies and processes staff recruitment and onboarding internal employee relations and investigations disability and attendance management and ensuring that staff employment practices are consistent with Saskatchewan legislation the staff collective agreement and SEIUâWests values in a unionized workplace.

This position is dedicated to internal staff HR and employee relations. It does not carry responsibility for external collective bargaining or memberâemployer labour relations.

Key responsibilities

In collaboration with the President and Directors the Employment Relations Manager will:

HR policies and processes:

Lead the maintenance and continuous improvement of staff HR policies procedures and job descriptions to ensure relevance consistency and compliance with legislation the staff collective agreement and organizational standards.
Provide advice and guidance to the President and Directors on implementing employer policies workplace expectations and staff HR processes.

Staff recruitment and onboarding:

Provide advice assistance and guidance in staff recruitment and selection including job design postings screening interview processes and offers.
Develop and maintain practical onboarding and orientation processes that help new staff integrate effectively into SEIUâWest.

Internal employee relations (staffâside):

Provide advice coaching and support to Directors in addressing staff performance conduct issues complaints and internal grievances in alignment with the staff collective agreement and applicable legislation.

Lead internal workplace investigations related to staff (e.g. harassment respect and dignity conflict) including documentation and recommendations.
Provide guidance on interpreting and applying staff collective agreement language as it relates to internal HR practices.

Disability accommodation and attendance:

Lead and administer staff disability management processes including Canada Life STD/LTD and WCB in accordance with SEIUâWest policies and program requirements.
Provide advice assistance and guidance on attendance management and accommodation processes consistent with human rights and occupational health and safety obligations.

Compliance and advisory support:

Monitor and advise on compliance of staff HR practices with Saskatchewan Employment Act human rights legislation and occupational health and safety laws.
Provide HR advice research and options to the senior leadership team to support consistent bestâpractice approaches to internal HR issues.
Contribute to the development and use of appropriate HR tools and systems to support accurate and confidential HR recordâkeeping.

Qualifications

University degree or diploma in Human Resources or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and recent experience that supports exemplary performance.
Professional HR designation (e.g. CPHR/CHRP) is considered an asset.
Minimum of three (3) years of recent relevant HR experience in a unionized employment environment including:
Building and implementing HR policies and programs related to talent acquisition development retention and workplace culture.
Advising and supporting leaders in addressing workplace conflict inappropriate conduct staff concerns and grievances.
Interpreting and applying collective agreement language in dayâtoâday HR practice.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Saskatchewan Employment Act human rights legislation and occupational health and safety laws.
Valid drivers license and reliable vehicle (travel within Saskatchewan may be required).

Knowledge skills and abilities:

Ability to work coâoperatively and collaboratively with SEIUâWest officers Directors and staff exercising sound judgement discretion and initiative.
Demonstrated experience providing mentorship and coaching on HR and employee relations matters.
Strong understanding of HR systems and technology with the ability to apply technology to improve dayâtoâday HR processes.
Proven experience in staff recruitment managing employee relations disability/attendance management and workplace investigations in a unionized setting.
Excellent interpersonal communication and relationshipâbuilding skills; able to inspire trust and confidence.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fastâpaced environment.
Excellent problemâsolving analytical written and oral communication skills.
