HSSE Trainee

is managing a recruitment process for BW Energy an independent oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) company operating in Gabon Namibia and Brazil. The company is committed to responsible resource management and to ensuring safe and sustainable energy production across its global operations.

As part of its continued growth BW Energy is strengthening its Global HSSE team and is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented trainee. This role offers hands-on experience in health safety security environment and process safety management within an international context.

Reports to: Global Health & Safety Manager

Your role:

HSSE Management System & Continuous Improvement:

• Support the maintenance and digitalization of the Integrated HSSE Management System;
• Assist in the review and update of HSSE procedures in alignment with ISO 45001 ISO 14001 and industry standards;
• Maintain controlled documentation ensuring compliance version control and accessibility;
• Support internal HSSE workshops awareness campaigns and training initiatives;
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a proactive safety culture and environmental responsibility.

HSSE Performance Monitoring & Reporting:

• Aggregate validate and analyze HSSE indicators (TRIR LTIF near misses process safety events environmental releases);
• Contribute to the development and automation of monthly and quarterly HSSE dashboards and reports (Power BI or similar tools);
• Ensure data consistency and integrity by coordinating with HSSE focal points across operational sites;
• Assist in statistical analysis to identify trends risks and recurring non-conformities;
• Support compliance with relevant legislation standards and industry guidelines.

Process Safety & Risk Management:

• Assist with Process Safety Management activities including incident investigations root cause analysis and action tracking;
• Support facilitation of risk assessments (HAZID HAZOP BowTie) and contribute to maintaining risk registers;
• Follow up on corrective and preventive actions to ensure timely closure and effectiveness.

Requirements:

• Masters degree in Safety Engineering or related technical fields;
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office;
• Familiarity with Power BI or similar data analysis tools is a plus;
• Awareness of regulatory frameworks (IOGP IPIECA OSHA ISO standards) and HSSE best practices is an advantage;
• Excellent attention to detail and data management skills;
• Strong communication teamwork and stakeholder engagement abilities;
• Proactive mindset and interest in safety environmental protection and sustainable development;
• Fluency in English (Portuguese or French is a plus).
