What We Are Looking For:
Aird & Berlis is looking to fill an open vacancy for a mid-level Proposal Specialist to join our friendly team for a six-month contract. Reporting to the Director of Client Communications and Development and working closely with senior members of the Marketing Department the Proposal Specialist will be responsible for a variety of proposal business development and communications initiatives. Core responsibilities will include writing proposal and business development documents and writing and proofreading internal and external communications. Responsibilities may also include writing marketing/promotional content project managing communications and marketing initiatives and assisting with the firms public relations media and advertising programs. We are looking for a confident knowledgeable writer with a strong understanding of business development principles and professional services.
Responsibilities:
- Proposals Business Development and Directories
- Work with team members and lawyers on strategy and preparing proposal and business development documents including re-purposing existing content or writing new content
- Ensure all RFP deadlines are met
- Liaise with graphic designer to develop an eye-pleasing product
- Maintain RFP-related content and tracking tools
- Assist with submissions to directories and ranking organizations
- Prepare firm profile and lawyer biographies for inclusion in legal directories
- Contribute to external communications related to recognitions including website and social media content
- Write edit and oversee the production of marketing and communications materials which could include brochures invitations lawyer biographies or web content
- Update the website as required
- Compose and proofread internal communications material
- Respond to communications requests from lawyers
- Assorted communications business development and administrative tasks and other duties as required
- Produce the highest quality of work; proofread as necessary
- Accountable for all work assigned

Requirements:
- Post-secondary degree preferably in Communications Marketing the Humanities Business Public Relations or Journalism
- Minimum of three years experience in a proposals business writer or business development role with significant writing responsibilities preferably in a professional services firm
- Superior writing proofreading editing and communications skills
- Must have a high degree of poise and professionalism and be comfortable dealing with senior personnel in a tactful manner
- Self-starter with the ability to manage projects and work independently
- Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Customer service mindset
- Detail-oriented and able to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Flexible work schedule and have the ability to work overtime as necessary
- Handle time pressure situations and stress of multiple demands
Skills:
- Advanced technical skills using MS Office 365 (including Excel and PowerPoint)
- Excellent computer skills including MS Office (Word Excel and PowerPoint)
- Exposure to InDesign and Vuture is an asset
- Experience with and interest in social media/media relations is an asset
- An understanding of website content management systems is an asset
- Strong verbal and written communication

Compensation:
Theâsalary range for this position is $35-$45 per hour; the base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills experience and internal and market equity.
