Job Description:
The Technical Writing Specialist will be a part of the Technical Publications team of professionals committed to providing quality and timely publication deliverables for commercial and government projects in a dynamic environment. Team members are responsible for gathering composing and editing technical information to prepare flight manuals maintenance manuals and other technical documentation for our warfighters.
Essential Functions:
- Author a wide variety of Maintenance Flight Part and Operator manuals under US DoD and commercial specifications (MIL-STD-38784 MIL-STD-40051/MIL-STD2361 ATA 100/iSpec2200 S1000D). Author flight checklists for pilots and operators.
- Develop content from Engineering assembly installation and component drawings and data.
- Author in structured/unstructured FrameMaker environments for Air Force Army or Navy programs.
- Author publications using S1000D tools for digital display.
- Help perform peer reviews of technical publication content.
- Work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to distill information for complex software driven hardware and avionics and then distill information into concise well-written step-by-step procedures narrative explanations and other technical publication content.
- Technical publication authoring experience within structured authoring environments (Structured FrameMaker/Arbor text/S1000D & XML authoring tools) and unstructured authoring environments (Unstructured FrameMaker Microsoft Word etc.).
- Consider cost quality and schedule factors and use that information to develop and author publications that adhere to cost quality and schedule requirements.
- Work well with colleagues internal customers and external customers.
- Strong computer skills with solid understanding of MS Office Suite and applications.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret with SCI Clearance.
- Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree with six (6) years of experience authoring technical publications for DoD or Aerospace programs and/or platforms.
- Graduate degree with four (4) years of experience authoring technical publications for DoD or Aerospace programs and/or platforms.
- In Lieu of a degree a minimum of ten (10) years of experience authoring technical publications for DoD or Aerospace programs and/or platforms.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
