Job Summary

Te tĪma The team:

Due to an exciting external secondment were recruiting for a new Clerk of Committee for a 12- month fixed term role. The Select Committee Services team supports Parliaments select committees with administrative procedural and reporting work. As a Clerk of Committee youll work closely with MPs across parties colleagues across the Office of the Clerk and parliamentary precinct and stakeholders from across the public sector and communitycollaborating in a high trust impartial environment that values service professionalism and tikanga Māori.

Mō te tūnga About the role:

As Clerk of Committee youll provide impartial procedural advice and coordinate the secretariat for designated select committees. You will:

  • Advise chairpersons and members on parliamentary procedure precedents and optionsclear impartial and tailored to context.
  • Plan and manage committee work programmes applying an understanding of processes to support committees achieve deadlines.
  • Lead the secretariat in meetingsmanage the room respond to the unexpected and ensure decisions are accurately minuted and implemented.
  • Quality assure papers and reports for committee consideration and oversee the process to present committee reports to the House within required timeframes.
  • Communicate committee work in plain English and support people engaging in committee processes.
  • Build trusted relationships with committee members their offices officials and stakeholders.
  • Model excellent service and continuous improvement.

This role has no direct reports but youll provide day-to-day leadership coaching and quality oversight across a small team of secretariat staff. This is a fixed term role until February 2027.

  • Substantive experience advising people in senior roles within parliament government departments private organisations or comparable procedural environments.
  • An understanding of parliamentary procedure and the machinery of government with the judgement to apply precedents to novel situations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communicationplain English reporting tactful advice confident meeting leadership.
  • Proven relationship management with senior stakeholders such as members of parliament.
  • Strong planning and organisationable to prioritise juggle commitments and meet deadlines in dynamic settings.
  • Experience leading small groups with the ability to set tasks and delegate to achieve a busy work programme.

The appointing salary range for this role is $106111 to $116617 per annum. Appointments will be based on skills and experience (please note the full salary range extends beyond this to allow for tenure progression).
