Head JV Baseball Coach

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will possess a high school diploma with a bachelors degree preferred and prior baseball playing and/or coaching experience. The candidate must demonstrate thorough knowledge of Virginia High School League (VHSL) baseball rules and regulations and the ability to effectively instruct motivate and supervise high school student-athletes. Strong leadership organizational and communication skills are essential along with the ability to work collaboratively with the varsity coaching staff and athletic administration. Required credentials include completion of all VHSL coaching education requirements current CPR/AED and First Aid certification and successful completion of all school division and state-mandated background checks and coaching certifications.

DESCRIPTION

The Junior Varsity (JV) Head Baseball Coach is responsible for leading organizing and administering the schools JV baseball program in accordance with VHSL regulations school board policies and school division procedures. This seasonal stipend position plays a critical role in supporting the varsity baseball program by developing student-athletes baseball fundamentals competitive skills sportsmanship academic responsibility and readiness for varsity-level participation. The JV Head Coach works closely with the Varsity Head Baseball Coach to ensure program alignment consistency and a positive student-athlete experience.

GENERAL DUTIES (May not include all duties performed)

• Plan organize and conduct JV baseball practices and competitions in compliance with VHSL rules and regulations
• Teach baseball fundamentals advanced skills game strategies and conditioning appropriate for high school athletes
• Supervise student-athletes before during and after practices games transportation and all VHSL-sanctioned activities
• Ensure all JV players meet VHSL eligibility requirements including academic standing and conduct expectations
• Enforce VHSL school board and athletic department policies consistently and fairly
• Promote and model VHSL standards of sportsmanship ethics and integrity
• Coordinate closely with the Varsity Head Baseball Coach to ensure alignment in program philosophy instruction and player development
• Evaluate player performance and provide constructive feedback to student-athletes and varsity coaching staff
• Maintain accurate records related to VHSL compliance including rosters eligibility documentation and participation records
• Assist with scheduling maintain accurate equipment inventory uniform management and field setup and maintenance
• Communicate effectively with student-athletes parents/guardians and athletic administrators in accordance with school guidelines
• Ensure the safety health and well-being of all student-athletes at all times
• Attend required VHSL rules clinics coaches meetings and professional development sessions
• Support program development including offseason conditioning and skill development as permitted by VHSL regulations
• Perform other related duties as assigned by the Varsity Head Baseball Coach or Athletic Director

SUPERVISION

The Junior Varsity Head Baseball Coach works under the supervision of the Varsity Head Baseball Coach and the Athletic Director.

WORK CONDITIONS

Duties are primarily performed outdoors and require working in varying weather conditions. The position involves evening and weekend hours consistent with the VHSL baseball season as well as travel to away games and tournaments. The role requires physical activity including standing walking and active participation in athletic instruction and supervision. Compensation is provided as a stipend in accordance with the school divisions approved coaching salary schedule.
