This role is responsible for managing the accounting team maintaining accurate financial records supporting audits and providing financial insight to leadership. Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Manage the general ledger month-end and year-end close processes and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Review journal entries account reconciliations and financial statements for accuracy and completeness.
- Oversee accounts payable accounts receivable billing and payroll coordination to ensure proper controls and compliance.
- Maintain and improve accounting policies procedures and internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) requirements.
- Oversee indirect rate structures and support rate development and monitoring.
- Support preparation and submission of incurred cost proposals and other required government reports.
- Serve as a key point of contact during DCAA and other external audits.
- Prepare and review monthly quarterly and annual financial statements for management.
- Provide variance analysis budget-to-actual reporting and financial insights to support business decisions.
- Assist with budgeting forecasting and long-term financial planning.
- Support executive leadership with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting.
- Supervise mentor and develop accounting staff fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with project managers contracts HR and operations teams to ensure accurate project costing and reporting.
- Participate in cross-functional initiatives to improve systems processes and scalability.
- Bachelors degree in accounting finance or related field.
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a government contracting environment.
- Strong knowledge of FAR GAAP and DCAA compliance requirements.
- Experience with job cost accounting and indirect rate structures.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management experience.
- Strong attention to detail analytical skills and ability to meet deadlines.
- Experience in a mid-size government contractor.
- Experience supporting DCAA audits and preparing incurred cost submissions.
- Familiarity with ERP system implementations or process improvement initiatives.
