At EMBL Heidelberg the GeneCore facility provides state-of-the-art genomics services to support research projects across Europe. GeneCore combines advanced sequencing technologies with robust bioinformatics infrastructure to deliver high-quality genomic data to the scientific community.
We are seeking a motivated Data Management & Web Support team member to assist with website maintenance content migration and daily bioinformatics operations. This is an excellent opportunity for early-career candidates to gain hands-on experience in genomics data management web technologies and core facility operations.
Your role
Website Maintenance Content Migration & Development
Migrate content from the legacy GeneCore website () to the new public-facing pages on the development server
Update and enhance public website content based on the current structure
Improve styling layout and user experience of the new website
Test and validate migrated content for accuracy formatting and consistency
Support deployment of new GeneCore public pages once approved
Maintain and update both intranet and public-facing GeneCore content post-migration
Content Management
Review existing content on the legacy internal website and identify material for migration or updating
Organize website content for improved navigation and user accessibility
Update outdated information on GeneCore services pricing contact details and protocols
Ensure style and visual consistency across all pages
Document changes and maintain proper version control
Daily Bioinformatics Operations Support
Assist with routine data management tasks across the lifecycle of sequencing runs
(registration library preparation sequencing processing archiving deletion)
Monitor and report on data archiving and deletion workflows
Support team members with general operational and administrative tasks
Learn and assist with GeneCores sequencing data workflow
Learning Opportunities
Gain hands-on exposure to bioinformatics data infrastructure
Understand how genomics core facilities manage large-scale sequencing data
Work with database systems and web technologies (WordPress Flask Django)
Collaborate with bioinformaticians on real-world projects
What we are looking for
This role is suitable for candidates who want to gain their first hands-on experience in genomics bioinformatics and research facility operations.
Ideally you are:
Studying and/or interested in pursuing career in Life Sciences Bioinformatics Computer Science or a related field
Curious and motivated to learn new skills including working with data and web technologies
Basic relevant IT familiarity and web tools is a plus.
Any previous relevant experience is welcome but not required.
Good written and verbal communication skills in English are expected.
Contract length: 12 months
Salary: Grade 1
