About the Role

To support the Senior Public Health Analyst in delivering high level specialist analysis for the Public Health Team.

Tomanagerelationshipswith colleaguesstakeholdersatvariouslevelsdelivering under supervisionprofessional analytical support and advice to improve the effectivenessand efficiency of effective risk stratification cost benefit analysis and other strategic evaluations. Support service and corporate transformation and improvement initiatives.

Toprovideeffectivelinemanagementandbearolemodeltothe team.

TodeputisefortheSenior Public Health Analyst and Public Health Principal asandwhenrequired.

To contribute to the personal development and upskilling of more junior members of the team.

Act as an ambassador for change and promote our values ensuring they are reflected and embedded in everything we do.

Key Duties include:

  • Tosupport the delivery of expert statistical advice totheon-goingdevelopmentandimplementationofrelevantanalyticalprojects
  • Managesupportdevelopandmonitorprojectswithintheteam workplan
  • Evaluatevalueformoneyofcommissionedintervention/projectsacrosspublichealthportfolios improving efficiency and innovation
  • Lead the data elements of needsassessmentsprovidingrobustuptodateandreliabledataand intelligence
  • To work with the Public Health leads and other Service Managers within Thurrock Council and health partners as required
  • Provide Health Intelligenceintheformofsurveillance of infections diseasesandwhenrequired to protect health
  • Toworkatalltimestoacceptednotionsofbestpracticeintheareaofequalopportunitiesand anti-discrimination offering a proactive lead for staff and others.

WhatWereLooking For

Werelooking for someone who has:

  • High degree of literacy and numeracy
  • Good oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to analyse interpret and present quantitative data
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Accuracy and attention to detail in own work
  • Ability to work to instruction and independently and to use initiative
  • Ability to produce detailed and insightful reports and translate complex information into meaningful conclusions and recommendations
  • Demonstratable capabilities to manage own workload working to tight and often changing timescales
  • Strong organisational skills ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload to meet competing deadlines
  • Ability to communicate clearly both face to face and via email and telephone in a polite and sensitive manner
  • Ability to effectively motivate and upskill individuals around you
  • Ability to maintain networks and work collaboratively with both internal and external individuals
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Skills in the use of at least some of the following: spreadsheets databases GIS statistical software (e.g. R Stata SAS SPSS Python)

Essential qualifications:

EducatedDegreelevelinpublichealthstatistics or related discipline or significant experience of working at a similar level in specialist area

Essential Experience:

Some experience in the use and application of complex statistical and epidemiological methods
Experience in the use of statistical and epidemiological methods for interpreting and understanding data sets
Knowledge of how linked data can be used to improve health and an understanding of the principles and approaches to data linkage

Experience of developing implementing maintaining and enforcing policies and procedures
Experience of working in a business / customer service environment with line management responsibilities
Degree or equivalent in Statistics a numerate subject Public Health or an equivalent relevant qualification
