GAI is seeking an Engineer 2 (transmission line) to join our Power Delivery team working remotely based in Austin TX. Required skills include transmission line design experience critical thinking problem solving organization team-focus and eagerness to apply learned engineering principles to solve real life problems. The Engineer 2 is responsible for technical leadership and the successful delivery of transmission line designs while maintaining the scope schedule budget and quality of projects within GAIs Transmission & Distribution Division. This individual should be technically focused and a strong leader with developed technical communication and computer skills.

Competency

  • Knowledge of electric utility transmission line engineering and design.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Complete day-to-day project tasks as required for successful project delivery. Tasks may include:
    • Preparation of Specification Packages
    • Preparation of Structural and Fabrication Drawings
    • Design and Analysis of Transmission Lines using PLS-CADD PLS-POLE and PLS-Tower is a bonus
    • Design and Analysis of foundations.
    • Analysis of existing and proposed structures with regard to Client and Other required codes standards and specifications.
    • Performance of Electrical Clearance checks and calculations.
  • Apply engineering principles to assist in the design of Power Delivery Projects.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Perform complex tasks typically following established processes.
  • Implements effective engineering methods provides technical guidance and acts as a resource for engineers and designers.
  • Directly manages projects with no limit to the number or value of individual projects managed.

Education and Training Preferred:

  • Bachelors degree from an ABET accredited college or university in engineering is required. Preferred a degree in Civil or Electrical engineering.
  • PE License required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of transmission line design concepts and principles.
  • Demonstrated track record of external customer engagements and building and maintaining successful client relationships.
  • 6 years of experience in transmission line design.
  • Required experience with PLS suite (PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE).
  • Preferred experience with PLS-TOWER and FAD Tools.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to workindoorsin professional office settings.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods whileperforming computer-based tasks.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing writing and handling office equipment.
  • Visual acuity to readprinted materials digital screens detailed documentsand perform detailed work.
  • Occasional standing walking bending or reaching within the office move between workstations and attend in-person meetings.
  • Ability to lift and carry office materials or equipmentweighingup to 10-20 pounds with or withoutassistance.
  • Adequatehearingtoparticipatein conversations phone calls and virtual meetings.
  • Ability to travel for meetings training or business purposes.

  • 10%

  • 6 Years of Experience

Education

  • B.S. or M.S. Engineering

Certification/Licensure

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License

Technical Responsibilities

  • Designs a complete project system component or process.
  • Prepares complete plans specifications and other project documents.
  • Begins to develop and reviews complete project documents for conformity and quality assurance.

    Management Responsibility

    • Receives general direction on key objectives. Receives guidance on unconventional/complex problems direction on modified techniques and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
    • Mentors junior staff by providing guidance explaining professional responsibilities and reviewing work products.
    • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.

    Communication Skills

    • Communicates effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
