SALARY:

$18.81-$21.81(non-PERS)

Job Purpose Statement/s:

Engages in directing and assisting staff in preparing cooking serving food and cleaning up after food has been served in a school cafeteria by performing the following duties. Oversees ordering of food for Nutrition Service Department.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Licenses Certifications Bonding and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance and employer drug and/or alcohol testing. Employees must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Food Handlers Permit. Must hold a current recognized first aid card or be willing to obtain same if directed by the district under ORS 342.664 (2).

  • Knowledge of basic kitchen utensils and equipment and their appropriate use;
  • Knowledge of measurements used in portioning ingredients;
  • Knowledge of methods of food and food preparation;
  • Knowledge of USDA rules and regulations for area of responsibility
  • Knowledge of safety and sanitation procedures as required by local sanitarian;
  • Skill in basic food preparation;
  • Ability to prepare food according to prescribed recipes without constant supervision;
  • Ability to accurately transfer record or convey information materials and money as required by the position;
  • Ability to maintain a neat and clean appearance in compliance with sanitation and safety standards;
  • Ability to develop and maintain a positive and effective working relationship with coworkers students parents and other employees;
  • Ability to organize workload to meet deadlines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:(To include but not limited to):

  • Oversees and instructs in the serving of all food for the approved daily menu using control portion size to insure proper quantity
  • Conducts oneself in the best interest of students in accordance with the highest tradition of public education in support of the Districts mission.
  • Receives and properly stores food and supplies verifies receipt and forwards to Nutrition Service office in a timely manner
  • Completes planning and production records in utilizing current software program
  • Supports other kitchen leads with ordering of proper product in quantity or type
  • Prepares and assembles a variety of hot and cold entrees fruit vegetables and other foods
  • Follows written menus production records and production standards
  • Prepares weekly food orders from other kitchen locations for ordering from vendors keeping adequate product without over ordering and waste
  • Follows recipes for consistent quality and cost effectiveness
  • Oversees batch cooking as needed on a daily basis
  • Orders weekly utilizing the current software program to provide correct amount of product without waste or underordering Adjusts forecasting and ordered amounts as needed considering customer preferences inventory on hand and the need to minimize waste
  • Prepares food service facilities for the serving of food
  • Minimizes waste
  • Operates POS program/daily meal count form as students come through meal line reviews food items to ensure students have a reimbursable meal and coaches student if no proper items/portion. Provides coaching if a student is missing items to qualify for a reimbursable meal.
  • Finalizes meal count information for reporting to the Nutrition Service Office on a daily basis. Reports must be sent in a timely manner.
  • Follows and ensures that all staff follow standard operating procedures for food safety and sanitation in the receiving and storage of supplies: in food preparation in storage minimizing waste in cleaning and maintaining equipment
  • Completes accurate monthly inventory of all food and beverages on assigned date and send it to the Nutrition Service Office
  • Completes required records for planning ordering production inventory meal and sales accounting and temperature logs on a daily weekly or monthly basis as required. Records are to be sent to Nutrition Service Office in a timely manner
  • Works with School Nurse and Parents of students with needing special diets to meet those needs
  • Monitors and Inspects equipment operations reporting concerns and needs
  • Trains staff at site with correct use and care of equipment and in maintaining high standards of sanitation and safety
  • Trains staff in all functions of food preparation and service will rotate so staff stays a breast of all work areas
  • Participates and prepares for special events as scheduled by the Principal/Vice Principal or district
  • Participates in required hours of annual continuing education as scheduled by district
  • Participates in Nutrition Service departments training to satisfy Oregon Department of Education and to stay abreast of new programs standards and menus
  • Maintains security for all food items in inventory in kitchen equipment and supplies
  • All other duties as assigned to ensure the services to students staff and guests.

Supervisory Responsibility: Directs the work of all cooks at the site. Plans and coordinates daily workflow for efficient use of labor.
