Job Description

This position manages appellate cases from opening through disposition by initiating and tracking new appeals preparing and issuing notices maintaining paper and electronic files and setting deadlines and follow-up tasks. The role evaluates and processes motions determining appropriate routing and resolution drafting routine decisions and preparing assignment memoranda for individual justice/judge and full-court matters. Responsibilities include processing trial court records and transcripts calculating briefing schedules handling petitions and applications drafting and distributing related orders and ensuring accurate data entry and workflow tracking. The position provides procedural guidance to attorneys court staff and the public; manages filing and records access; and supports oral arguments by coordinating parties preparing the courtroom and serving as in-court clerk. Additional duties include reviewing and distributing opinions under strict confidentiality performing front counter and cash-handling duties assisting with training new case managers and carrying out other assigned responsibilities.

The Work Hours

Full-time court employees are currently scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of advanced clerical work experience equivalent to a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System or an equivalent position with another employer.

OR

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND completion of a two-year paralegal curriculum from an accredited institution.

OR

A bachelors degree from an accredited college.
