Description of Job

This position provides education through development of core competencies to all nursing staff throughout the department. This position will be tasked with developing training and teach hands-on skills to nursing staff. This position is responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for developing a robust training program for nursing staff through the development of core competencies.

  • May be required to participate in restraining an offender primarily for medical reasons.

  • Responsible to ensure that all nursing staff receive annual training and competency check offs.

  • Responsible to provide remedial training as needed for any staff who do not pass competencies.

  • Responsible for liaison interface between the Clinical Unit and the quality department.

  • Develop quality specific training as needed based on identified issue.

  • Responsible to generate reports on training with a tracking mechanism to ensure that all staff have completed annual competencies training and check offs.

  • Responsible for ensuring the standards of care for nursing staff are met by verifying compliance with all applicable nursing care departmental organizational and unit standards;

  • implements training to maximize the quality of patient care delivered within the facility by directing and coordinating the timely reporting of statistical and quality assessment data as indicated;

  • Performs as a resource person for all compliance standards. Formulates and implements policies and procedures essential to promoting quality care in respect to direct nursing care as needed.

  • Responsible to work with the Health Services Administrators or supervisory nursing staff to nursing staff compliance with all Life/Safety policies and procedures.

  • Attend required meetings. Develop proposals and complete requisitions of items needed for training submitting through the proper channels to ensure budgetary prudence.

  • May be required travel to other facilities as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Applicants must possess a valid active Registered Nurse License from the State of Colorado or any state participating in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC);
  • Applicants must have four (4) yearsof providing patient care as a Registered Nurse.

SUBSTITUTIONS:
  • Appropriate education will substitute for up to two (2) years of the required experience on a year-for-year basis.* *You must attach a copy of your transcripts to utilize the substitutions. Your transcripts must contain the name of the college/university type of degree received date the degree was awarded/conferred your name last four of social security number or student ID number.

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Experience providing clinical treatment in a correctional environment;
  2. Experience providing medical care in an infirmary or skilled nursing center;
  3. Professional experience as a registered nurse in a correctional environment;
  4. At least two years of nursing supervisory experience. Supervision is exercising span and control over subordinate staff to include coaching mentoring daily monitoring performance management (planning reviewing and evaluating) resolving complaints/grievances at the informal level responsibility for scheduling and leave approval and providing input that could impact pay status or tenure;
