Job Summary

Position Title: 9-12 Media Specialist
Department: Alma High School
Reports To: Alma High School Principal
Contract: 200 Days
Closing: Until Filled

Alma School District is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to serve as the High School Media Specialist. The Media Specialist for grades 912 will provide access to resources technology and instructional support that enhance teaching and learning for students and staff. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of curriculum and the science of reading to support interdisciplinary instruction across content areas. This position requires collaboration with faculty to integrate information literacy research skills and media resources into classroom instruction

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Valid Arkansas Media Specialist License or qualifies for Additional Licensure Plan approved by DESE
Holds or is working towards a Library Media Specialist Masters
At least 3 years of teaching experience in a 9-12 classroom
Experience with multiple forms of instructional technology

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience as a high school media specialist
Specialized training in literary circles and literary works studied in high school
At least 5 years of experience teaching in a literacy classroom using the science of reading

ESSENTIAL DUTIES RESPONSIBILITIES EXPERIENCE AND SKILL SET

Ability to demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with students staff and parents
Ability to organize catalogue display distribute and produce instructional materials
Ability to select and provide access to a wide variety of materials which meet the needs of various learning situations
Knowledge and ability to teach information and technology literacy
Knowledge of civil rights relating to free access to materials and copyright law
Ability to be flexible in order to accommodate teachers students parents/guardians and community members
Knowledge and ability to work with technology and assist with integration in the classroom
Create and maintain a school library center that provides a teaching and learning environment that is inviting safe readily accessible and conducive to student learning
Actively promote reading information literacy skills and information resource use through activities including book clubs reading programs reading initiatives and other special events
Cooperate and network with other libraries librarians and agencies to provide expanded access to resources for students and teachers
Develop policies and procedures that ensure maximum accessibility efficient operation effective services and facility use. This includes policies and procedures for physical access electronic access selection acquisition circulation resource sharing and materials challenges
Implement and maintain automated catalog circulation system and textbook check-out services including students obligations and responsibilities for materials
Prepare a program budget that supports the school library media program goals
Create and implement a vision for the Library Media Center
Works as part of a team to integrate library/media resources with grade-level curriculum content
Serve as an advocate for the schools library programs and services by utilizing a variety of communication and technology tools
Take an active role in school improvement activities.
Promote reading in traditional and innovative ways such as social media digital media and print
