Montgomery Parks is currently seeking an energetic and welcoming InformationDeskAssistantat BrooksideGardens. The ideal candidate enjoys engaging with visitors in a fast-paced environment has an excellent work ethic and can stay focused despite frequent interruptions and distractions. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint) is required along with the ability to learn new systems and evolving processes.
Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Spoken Spanish proficiency is preferred but not required. This position reports directly to the Information Desk Manager.
About the HFEE and Brookside Gardens
The Horticulture Forestry and Environmental Education (HFEE) Division preserves and maintains our parks natural and cultural resources. BrooksideGardensis one of our public gardens showcasing horticultural exhibits designed and maintained using ecological landscape practices. Our public gardens offer a wide variety of educational programs for children and adults are planned to excite curiosity and encourage lifelong learning with the vision of mobilizing residents of Montgomery County as dedicated stewards of the natural world.

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is a six-time National Recreational and Parks Association Gold Medal Award Winner. Examples of Important Duties
Answers general inquiries from visitors to the Gardens on routine informational matters.
Answers phone calls and replies promptly to voicemail messages; answers and replies promptly to email inquiries.
Creates and maintains records such as visitation data survey responses and customer service logs.
Restocks brochure racks and bulletin boards with maps Cultivate Magazine program flyers and related items.
Assists the Information Desk Manager with coordinating monthly volunteer schedules.
Helps train and support Information Desk volunteers to ensure excellent customer service.
Registers participants for classes and programs; runs reports; processes program payments and membership discounts.
Works select weekdays and alternating weekends.
Creates and updates PowerPoint slideshows to advertise upcoming programs.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or GED.
One year of customer service experience
Applicants must be at least 18 years or older
Supplemental Information
May be subject to medical drug and alcohol testing.
Working conditions
- Primarily works indoors. Works independently and as part of a team. Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds. Initially this position will work 16 hours/week shadowing current staff and will work 24-32 hours/week after April 30th 2026.
Supplemental Information- This position is not eligible for benefits.
- A fingerprinting and background investigation will be completed prior to hire.
