Description of Work

This role requires a solid understanding of general office practices and procedures to compile review verify and record data for various records and reports. Daily public interaction is expected so the applicant must demonstrate excellent telephone etiquette and consistently provide professional customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

Work independently and exercise sound problem-solving skills.
Apply strong mathematical skills in daily tasks.
Establish update and maintain accurate records and reports.
Generate monthly reports and perform detailed analysis.
Manage and maintain organized files and documentation.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Adhere to all NCDOT workplace and safety policies.


This position works out of the HATTERAS FERRY OPERATION and will work 7 days on 7 days off.

Possession of a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) issued by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC02 / $31200 - $49340

Management prefers applicants with the following:

  • Considerable knowledge of office procedures methods and practices
  • Skill in using Windows 7 (or greater) Microsoft Office (MS Word Excel Outlook) and Internet Explorer.
  • Experience in gathering and giving information and instructions.
  • Skill in working with people with courtesy and tact utilizing customer service skills.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
