Job Summary
A healthcare organization in New York is seeking a Hospital Care Investigator to support Patient Financial Services within the revenue cycle process. This role is responsible for reviewing and correcting billing accounts preparing and submitting insurance claims posting payments and resolving denials. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments to ensure accurate and timely billing.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Review patient accounts and correct claim edits
Prepare and submit both paper and electronic insurance claims
Post payments and update patient accounting systems
Process claim rejections denials and payer correspondence in a timely manner
Coordinate with internal departments to resolve billing-related issues
Process and follow up on pre-authorizations and document outcomes
Audit patient accounts for accuracy and apply appropriate adjustments
Provide billing-related customer service and document all interactions
Process patient statements and follow up on past-due accounts
Generate and review Patient Balance Aging and Insurance Aging reports
Follow up with patients and insurance carriers regarding outstanding balances
Arrange payment plans with patients when applicable
Escalate complex or unresolved accounts to supervisors promptly
Attend required training sessions
Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Required Skills & Experience
Experience completing both paper and electronic insurance claims
Proficiency with billing systems and standard computer applications
Strong documentation and data entry skills
Experience handling claim denials rejections and follow-ups
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Education & Qualifications
Required:
Preferred:
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university OR
Four (4) years of full-time experience in interviewing investigation billing collections bookkeeping or a related field
College coursework may substitute for experience (30 semester credits 1 year of experience)
