Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement the Director of Nursing Sistersville General Hospital is responsible for professional nursing practice on the medical surgical and emergency department at Sistersville General Hospital as well as the direction care delivered and quality of the Journey Hospice program. The position aligns departmental goals with organizational goals and strategic objectives and insures nursing practice and hospice care is highly participative evidenced-based clinically excellent and collaborative in nature. The director is responsible and accountable for the clinical outcomes financial performance performance improvement quality control customer service and employee relations of these departments. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

Job Functions:

  1. Responsible for overall planning organizing implementing directing and evaluating of the hospice program including program objectives policies and procedures and any outreach opportunities for the program.
  2. Will work closely and collaboratively with various nursing and non-nursing departments to meet organizational goals.
  3. Transformational leader who exhibits professionalism confidence and inspires motivates others to a higher level of professionalism.
  4. Work collaboratively with quality to achieve high levels of nursing practice and develops implements and evaluates quality assurance program specific to Hospice which addresses quality of care patient complaints and ensures patient satisfaction. Monitors safety issues infection control and control of hazardous materials.
  5. Role model participation in shared governance and mentoring emerging leaders networking across the system and ensuring the involvement of frontline staff.
  6. Utilizes evidence-based practice (EBP) when available and establishes standards for its use in all policies procedures guidelines and education.
  7. Able to organize and manage complex projects uses lean processes to facilitate project management.
  8. Participates in departmental goal development and goal setting that aligns with strategic nursing and organizational goals works collaboratively with other departments partnering to ensure mutual success.
  9. Maintains current and updated state and federal information regarding regulations and reimbursement pertaining to the program. Ensures that the program adheres to federal and state regulations.
  10. Participates in the planning of programs operational budget with the aim of cost effectiveness for the Hospital while providing quality care to the patient.
  11. Has the authority and responsibility to hire transfer suspend lay off recall promote discharge assign reward discipline direct or recommend such actions by using independent judgment.
  12. Completes and conducts employee performance evaluations based on direct observation of their employees job performance.
  13. Granted authority to perform the supervisory duties and are held accountable for performing such duties.
  14. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.


Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Masters Degree in Nursing or appropriate related field required.
  • Current licensure in the state of West Virginia as a registered nurse required.
  • Minimum 5 years nursing experience including evidence of progressive nursing leadership (formal or informal) and with at least 3 years in home health or hospice required.
  • Valid drivers license and remain insurable by hospitals agent required.
  • Personal transportation required.
  • BLS certification required.

Special Knowledge Skills Training:

  • Verbal clerical numerical and manual dexterity color vision and near visual acuity proper lifting techniques and body mechanics.

Compensation Details: Education experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
