The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dynamic and committed STEM educator with strong content and pedagogical knowledge solid classroom management skills a deep commitment to educational and racial equity and experience working in an urban school setting. You will facilitate learning experiences where students engage in hands-on activities projects and develop solutions to real world problems through integration of science computer science engineering and more. While you will work primarily with General Education classrooms our school prides itself on a full inclusion model.
The ideal candidate is someone who can promote student sense-making as they build their understanding of complex concepts while also ensuring that students with high needs are actively engaged and supported.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate STEM project-based learning experiences aligned to NGSS and the MA State Frameworks.
- Support students in deepening critical thinking collaboration and creative skills through exploration modeling testing prototypes and evaluating solutions.
- Create a structured engaging classroom environment that supports hands-on exploration maintains clear expectations and routines and accommodates diverse student needs.
- Incorporate a variety of teaching and assessment strategies to inform and modify instruction.
- Collaborate with other educators and the school and department level to promote alignment between the different student learning experiences.
- Showcase student work through family engagement and community partnerships.
- Attend weekly specialist team meetings with colleagues as assigned.
- Attend regular school and department meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the school principal.
Your Skill Set:
As the incoming STEM Teacher you will possess many though perhaps not all of the following characteristics and qualifications:
- Teaching experience in the elementary grades with a proven track record of promoting high achievement in the classroom.
- Experience writing lesson plans with clear attainable learning goals and aligned activities.
- Understanding of the developmental needs of learners and the strategies to meet those needs through the curriculum.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Knowledge of MA Curriculum Framework for Science.
- Culturally proficient and skilled in culturally responsive teaching.
- Willingness to be trained in the use of STEM curriculum materials.
- Bachelors degree required; Masters in Education strongly preferred.
Required Qualifications
- MA Licensure in elementary 1-6 moderate disabilities preK-8 and/or General Science 1-6
