The Role

The Operations Build Supervisor leads daytoday operations and build execution for advanced battery cell processes within GMs Battery Cell Development Center (BCDC). This handson leader supports launch readiness manages a team of build technicians across multiple shifts and partners with engineering and process teams to develop validate and optimize manufacturing systems. The role requires strong technical capability sound judgment and the ability to adapt and drive results in a fastpaced development environment.

What Youll Do

Safety & Compliance Leadership

  • Champion a strong safety culture aligned with GM standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Support deployment of environmental health and safety systems procedures and audits.
  • Support incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Ensure emergency response readiness and compliance with OSHA hazardous materials and PSM-related requirements.

Operations and Build Team Leadership

  • Model GMs cultural behaviors and foster a positive inclusive team environment.
  • Lead develop and coach a team (up to 12 employees) across all shifts.
  • Conduct selection onboarding training coaching evaluations and career development discussions.
  • Manage daily operations adjust plans to meet schedule changes and ensure responsive floor support.

Manufacturing System Development & Execution

  • Lead execution of build activities root cause and resolution for advanced battery cell manufacturing (slurry/ink coating calendering assembly formation and testing).
  • Develop and maintain operational documentation including JES/TIS/SOPs PFDs PADs PCPs and PFMEAs.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on process definitions equipment specifications commissioning and validation.
  • Support launch enhancements and new technology integration.

Quality ProblemSolving & Continuous Improvement

  • Apply statistical problemsolving tools (RedX DOE DFSS) to improve quality and throughput.
  • Support Built-in-Quality systems inspection routines and process capability improvements.
  • Document lessons learned to strengthen future program design manufacturing systems and operational execution.

CrossFunctional Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineering quality supply chain maintenance facilities and automation teams to resolve issues and improve efficiency.
  • Support acceptance and integration of equipment in partnership with suppliers.
  • Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization and influence decisions in ambiguous environments.

Scope & Impact

  • Supervises and develops employees supporting critical battery cell development operations.
  • Makes timesensitive decisions that impact safety quality throughput and program readiness.
  • Plays a central role in scaling technology from labscale development toward high-volume manufacturing environments.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Minimum 5 years of Manufacturing Engineering or Operations experience in vehicle powertrain or cell manufacturing.
  • One year of direct supervisory experience or at least five months as an internal GM group leader.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team across multiple shifts.
  • Ability to wear PPE (safety glasses gloves hard hat ear protection safety shoes clean room suits respirators if required).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and handson experience with manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience with specifying procuring commissioning and validating equipment.
  • Knowledge of GMS principles and experience with launch readiness.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and scaling manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to work offshift weekends or holidays as needed.
  • Strong analytical problemsolving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to manage conflict provide effective feedback and lead change.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience in lithiumion cell manufacturing (slurry/mixing coating calendering stacking/assembly formation EOL testing).
  • Experience in development pilot or startup environments.
  • Experience with EV/highvoltage safety and lithiumion manufacturing hazards.
  • Automation robotics or AMR integration experience.
  • Experience implementing BuiltinQuality systems.
  • Red X DFSS DOE Lean or CIP certifications.
  • Expertise in TIP (Throughput Improvement Process).
  • Advanced understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes.
