The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a collaborative and forward-thinking Information Technology Manager to lead the IT Departments Project Management Office (PMO) Division and drive enterprise technology initiatives that provide essential City services. This is a high-visibility leadership role that reports to the CIO and is responsible for shaping how the City delivers technology projects and is the project manager for several projects at the same time. The PMO Manager leads enterprise project delivery organizational change efforts and customer-focused initiatives that span all departments and directly support the community. This position oversees a team of project management professionals delivering complex initiatives and plays a central role in portfolio management business process improvement requirements development and RFP-driven system implementations.
This role is ideal for a strategic and service-oriented leader who enjoys working across departments mentoring staff improving processes and turning City priorities into successful outcomes. The successful candidate is comfortable operating at both the executive and project-delivery levels in order to help shape strategy while ensuring strong day-to-day execution.

EXAM PROCESS
Applications will be competitively screened based on the minimum qualifications of this position.Based upon a review of the application materials the most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process which may consist of a virtual oral examination scheduled for March 11th and 12th 2026 (Note: The examination process may be changed as deemed necessary by the Director of Human Resources).
SELECTION PROCESS
Those candidates that receive a passing score on the examination will be placed on an eligibility list for up to one year in accordance with the Citys Civil Service Rules and Administrative Policies. Top candidates on the eligibility list will be invited to participate in an onsite selection interview with the department scheduled for March 16th and/or March 17th 2026. Selection interviews will typically take place in-person please plan accordingly.
Any candidate selected by the hiring department will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment process which may consist of a comprehensive background investigation as well as medical exam(s) administered by a City-selected physician(s) before hire. Prior to starting work all newly-hired employees will be fingerprinted to check conviction history. A conviction history will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from appointment; however failure to disclose conviction history will result in refusal of employment or termination.
