Your new team

This position sits in our Chivas Brothers business. At Chivas Brothers our 1600-strong team across 27 sites is committed to upholding the heritage of Scotch and ensuring its sustainable future as well as opening it up to new audiences across the globe.

The scope of Operations stretches from Procurement through conversion (distillation and maturation) and manufacturing (or bottling) to all the downstream Supply Chain activities until the final product is addition Operations play a very active role in Innovation Talent Development and Operational Risk Management.

Bottling and Blending here at Chivas Brothers encompasses everything from the bottling of our products until they reach our customers. The Spirit Supply Operations team are the key link between our three bottling halls and our Bulk Operations team. Based at our site in Dumbarton the team are responsible for the management our vatting processes to ensure delivery of product to the bottling halls as required to meet customer demands.

Your unique contribution

The Level 4 Operator - Vatting oversees the critical process of blending of spirit to ensure consistency and quality before bottling including high-value IBC (Intermediate Bulk Container) operations. This role involves being responsible for troubleshooting equipment managing spirit changeovers and addressing process challenges to meet customer demand.

You will have six main areas of responsibility:

Process Operations and Changeovers:

  • Operation of advanced equipment performing full spirit changeovers on the filter press and management of remnant returns from bottling lines IBC operations while managing and operating forklift trucks safely and performing Clean in Place (CIP) when necessary to ensure spirit integrity between products.
  • Operating computerised and / or manual systems to monitor and control the spirit process and carrying out the receipt and processing of all spirit requirements (recording of all HMRC documentation for audit compliance / legal requirement).

Performance & Troubleshooting

  • Drive and own performance for spirit transfer operations with the aim of improving efficiency you will populate maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for data analysis and Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives.
  • You will take a Lead Operator role in continuous improvement projects and perform advanced troubleshooting using RCPS (Root Cause Problem Solving) methodology as well as maintaining 5S standards for workplace organisation and efficiency.
  • Make running adjustments to blends / flows on filter press in line with established escalation processes and update procedures and documentation when required.

Quality Assurance & New Product Development (NPD):

  • Take ownership for product quality by carrying out spirit quality checks initiating and driving investigations and proposing corrective actions / improvement initiatives escalating any production or quality issues as necessary.
  • Providing input for NPD trial planning and execution of spirit processing.

Autonomous Maintenance & Asset Care:

  • Performing housekeeping tasks and asset care requirements carrying out preventative maintenance activities adhering to autonomous maintenance processes. Also conducting inspections on flexi connections.

Health & Safety:

  • Being responsible for ensuring adherence to safety protocols and procedures and role modelling COMAH competence.
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards in the production area and be committed to challenging unsafe acts and behaviours.

Team Collaboration & Training:

  • Contribute to driving the Daily Management System (DMS) activities such as running Short Interval Control (SIC) meetings and participating in Tier 1 reviews.
  • Participate in line and team meetings to share insights and drive improvements.
  • Train and mentor other operators to enhance their skills and performance and be responsible for providing and participating in a robust Operator handover.

Who youll be working with

Internally youll communicate and collaborate regularly with Bottling Quality Supply Chain and Blending teams to drive performance and improvement.

Externally you will collaborate with contractors consultants suppliers regulators and local authorities to ensure delivery of services to the highest standard.

  • Have previous experience in a similar role with advanced technical expertise in operating and troubleshooting various pieces of Vatting machinery and equipment.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail with good problem-solving skills and can effectively analyse and record data using production systems and communicate the output with others.
  • Are able to take responsibility for team activities drive process improvements and engagement.
  • Are a strong advocate for workplace safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
