TheLeader Regulatory Strategyâand Climate Actionisresponsible forâthe strategicâandâday-to-day leadership ofâourâregulatory workâwith theProvince as well as the organizations climate action strategy anddelivering onthose priorities.
Working with the Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs and the Ministry of Transportation and Transit as well as stakeholders in the safety system this role includes the prioritizationâanalysisâand proposal of regulatory changes and climate action initiatives that promote safe technical systems for the technologies we regulate.â
The role requires a strong understanding of government and social policy frameworks andâimpactsâas well as familiarity with the BC regulatory environment.âAs well as a strong understanding of climate change and knowledge of managing associated safety risks.

As a Leader Regulatory Strategy and Climate Action you will oversee:
Regulatory Affairs
- Confirmation and deliveryâof regulatory and non-regulatory initiativesâwith each Ministry.ââGuiding the regulatory development process including creation and submission of Requests for Amendment and the drafting of regulatory changes with theâProvince.ââRepresentingâTSBC strategy andâobligationsâwhen working with theâProvinceâand other stakeholdersâonâinitiatives andâpriorities
Research and Analysis:
- Providing strategic analysis of politicalâpolicyâand climateâimpacts andâhelpingâthe organization respond to emergingâand on-goingâissues andprovides advice to ensure Technical Safety BCs mandate is met.
Regulatory Initiatives:
- Leadingâthe organizationâto prioritize andâobtainâagreement onâregulatoryâinitiativesâincluding scope timing and resource impacts.ââSupporting the organization in the roll out of regulatory changes by sharingâand helping to manageâthe policyâchangeâimpacts.ââ
Stakeholder and government relations:
- Provides leadership onconsultation process withgovernmentsstakeholdersand clients and provides advice on strategies to address provincial and stakeholder interests. Investigateslegislative or regulatoryconcerns raised by stakeholders and proposes optionsto address issues.
Climate Action:
- Advances climate action goals byâimproving climate safety risk trackingâandâanalysis andâsupportingâthe adoption ofâlow-carbon technology (e.g. heat pumps EV chargers).ââ
Leadership:
- Models leadership behaviours that support the engagement ofemployees anddrives culture and change management initiatives. Managesdevelopsand coachesRegulatory Strategy and Climate Action collaboratively with otherpolicy leaders and directors toestablisha cohesive departmental culture.
- Oversees direct reports including hiring coaching development performance management and discipline following all policies procedures and collective agreements. Interprets and applies the collective agreement andrepresentsthe employer in confidential labour relations matters.
Knowledge Skills & Experience you have:
- Graduate degree in political science public administration public policy law or equivalent (Masters is preferred).
- 5 to 10 years professional experience. Including significant experienceâworking with regulatory change preferably in BC.
- Preference for those with experience in either technical safety or climate.â
- Demonstratedâabilityâto work with technical experts and translate technical material into effective and understandable public and policy documentsâ
- Proven ability to lead teams with different perspectives with 5 years of experience in people leadership.
- Ability to analyze research evaluate and interpret policy issues in an efficient manner.
- Ability to assess the provincial political landscape and remain current on stakeholder interests.
- Demonstrated ability to work with teams to develop creative solutions to meet organizational needs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
