The Sitka Superior Court of the Alaska Court System is accepting applications for aChambers Judicial Assistant 1 (salary range 12). Under the direction of a Superior Court Judge the successful applicant will provide assistance and support including case management processing.
*Applicants transferring from another State of Alaska agency or applicants with prior work experience or education in the legal field may receive consideration for advance step placement.
Judicial / Administrative Support
Provides comprehensive administrative and clerical support to judges by managing the flow of case files and documentation between chambers and the clerks office. Responsibilities include routing and filing documents through electronic case management systems preparing and editing judicial correspondence and orders tracking pending motions and coordinating hearing schedules while ensuring calendar accuracy. Serves as the primary point of contact for chambers by screening calls and visitors with discretion. Supports trial preparation jury communications and administrative processes such as pay affidavits travel expense claims and personnel-related documentation. Maintains organized filing systems for judicial training and committee-related matters to ensure efficient court operations.
General Case Processing / File Maintenance / Recordkeeping
Performs case processing and recordkeeping functions to support court operations. Reviews pleadings for compliance with procedural rules files and tracks documents in the case management system and monitors motion deadlines to ensure timely judicial review. Schedules hearings and trials prepares and distributes notices and orders and processes post-trial documentation. Responds to record research and copy requests providing accurate information to the public and court staff. Maintains organized court records assists with record retention and destruction and reviews case statuses to ensure progression follow-up or closure in accordance with court requirements.

Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate.
AND
Two years of progressively responsible fully qualified work experience as an administrative assistant.
Substitution:
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary paralegal or office skills will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.
A bachelors degree from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.
Twelve months of work experience performing general clerical work that demonstrates work skills equal to those of a Court Case Manager 1 with the Alaska Court System will substitute for one year of the required administrative assistant work experience.
NOTE: Work experience as a legal administrative assistant is preferred. Positions in this job classification are in the partially-exempt service and serve at-will to the appointing authority.
