About the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Aquatics Center JBMDL NJ.
Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble promptly administers first aid and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environmental or health conditions ocean conditions of rough water or hazards and recommends closing swimming area until safe conditions prevail. When working at pools may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. Ensures that diving boards are inspected frequently for cracks or loose matting and that necessary repairs are made. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include but is not limited to: cleaning of bath houses wading pools main pools pool decks bench areas sunbathing areas etc. Performs other related duties as assigned. In order to qualify you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience:
For pool and aquatic center lifeguards: Must have or be in the process of obtaining an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills as well as basic first aid training and CPR (both child and adult) training. If not certified prior to employment must successfully achieve certificate within first thirty (30) days of employment. For coastal lifeguards: In addition to the above must also have surf rescue techniques training. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities rules and procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment is desirable.Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
