The City of Topekas Development Services division is seeking an experienced professional to join its team as its Permitting Manager. This position plays a vital leadership role in overseeing the daily operations of the Permit section by ensuring permit processes are efficient transparent and within legal and safety standards and regulations.
What youll do:
- Oversee operations of the Permit section including review and approval processes for permits issued by Development Services.
- Supervise evaluate and provide support to subordinate staff.
- Provide technical guidance and mediate the interpretation and application of building codes.
- Lead efforts to modernize and regularly update building and fire codes.
The ideal candidate:
- Is a collaborative leader with the ability to coach and motivate staff.
- Is highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks and exercise sound judgment.
- Has excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Is knowledgeable about building regulations codes permit processes and development standards.
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in architecture architectural engineering construction science or management urban studies planning public administration or related field.
- With a Bachelors degree five years of professional experience in building construction project management program/policy development architectural design plan review or related field is required.
- Without a Bachelors degree a high school diploma or its equivalent is required with nine years of professional experience in building construction project management program/policy development architectural design plan review or related field is required.
- Minimum of three years of supervisory experience is required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas drivers license and city-insurable driving record.
Annual Entry Salary: $79337 - $95514 depending on qualifications
