Job Summary

The City of Topekas Development Services division is seeking an experienced professional to join its team as its Permitting Manager. This position plays a vital leadership role in overseeing the daily operations of the Permit section by ensuring permit processes are efficient transparent and within legal and safety standards and regulations.

What youll do:

  • Oversee operations of the Permit section including review and approval processes for permits issued by Development Services.
  • Supervise evaluate and provide support to subordinate staff.
  • Provide technical guidance and mediate the interpretation and application of building codes.
  • Lead efforts to modernize and regularly update building and fire codes.

The ideal candidate:

  • Is a collaborative leader with the ability to coach and motivate staff.
  • Is highly organized with the ability to prioritize tasks and exercise sound judgment.
  • Has excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Is knowledgeable about building regulations codes permit processes and development standards.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in architecture architectural engineering construction science or management urban studies planning public administration or related field.
    • With a Bachelors degree five years of professional experience in building construction project management program/policy development architectural design plan review or related field is required.
  • Without a Bachelors degree a high school diploma or its equivalent is required with nine years of professional experience in building construction project management program/policy development architectural design plan review or related field is required.
  • Minimum of three years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Kansas drivers license and city-insurable driving record.

Annual Entry Salary: $79337 - $95514 depending on qualifications
