Description Position Details:Promote and advocate for students as it relates to inclusive students with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social or modify curriculum and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels. Assignment may span 7th grade to 12th grade and services may be provided in a variety of environments or through a variety of models (i.e. co-taught indirect or resource).Under the direction of the Building School Principal and the Special Education LEA the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities; evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows state mandated due process procedures and functions as caseload manager to assigned have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with students other faculty staff and parents as normally defined by the ability to see read talk hear handle or feel objects and controls. The position also entails walking bending standing stooping and possible physical interventions in order to maintain a safe learning with other special education team members general education classroom teachers and/or support :Proven experience as a Special Education Teacher or relevant roleKnowledge of current special education topics and methodologiesExperience working with children with a wide range of disabilities or special needsAbility to create Individual Education Plans (IEPs)Experience with using special education service based platforms such as SEASA patient resourceful and resilient personalityExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsStrong initiator of job responsibilitiesBachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in special educationArkansas Teacher certification with Special Education endorsementHighly qualified per Arkansas requirements as a special education teacherMasters degree in special education is preferred but not requiredRequired Skills:Strong working knowledge of IDEA requirementsAn ability to support and guide adults as well as studentsStrong written and verbal communication skillsOrganization and time-management skillsExperience working with the proposed age groupsKnowledge of alternative public school environments including charter schoolsExperience using internet search engines student information system and/or other type of databaseAn ability to learn new technology tools quickly (e.g. database and web-based tools)Proficiency in Google Suites and experience using them in a professional capacityDuties:Maintain confidentiality of information concerning colleagues students and parentsMaintain a respectful environment and open communication with studentsContinually seek to motivate students for the learning task at handIdentify strengths and weaknesses in studentsSupport and assist building staff in maintaining order and appropriate behavior among studentsProvide reasonable care and safety of assigned students at any particular timeUtilize instructional materials and other educational resources in a competent and effective mannerUtilize a variety of resources to enhance the teaching and learning processModify general education curriculum for special needs students based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologiesProvide appropriate appraisal for referred students including written program recommendationsConsult with teachers and parents to maintain student records necessary for continuous evaluation relating to the students IEPMeet with general education teachers to ensure that IEP requirements are being met and to obtain information about student performanceAttend all required professional development activities and meetingsParticipate in professional activities that enhance the mission of the school/district and the meeting of district standardsSeek continuing education or professional development which aligns to district goalsDemonstrate high standards of professionalism and ethicsHave awareness of ethical confidentiality regarding sensitive information concerning student situations and needsPerform other duties as assignedNote: This is not necessarily an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities skills duties requirements efforts functions or working conditions associated with the job.
