SUMMARY: Kenowa Hills High School serves students in grades 912 with a strong commitment to academic excellence personal development and community engagement. As part of the Kenowa Hills Public Schools district we emphasize hands-on learning critical thinking and meaningful real-world experiences. We are anticipating an opening at Kenowa Hills High School.

QUALIFICATIONS: We are looking for someone who is passionate about inspiring young minds and engaging students in hands-on interdisciplinary and interactive learning. Must hold a valid State of Michigan teaching certificate with Social Studies (RX) endorsement with appropriate grade level distinctions.

  • Knowledge of standards-based proficiency-based instructional practices preferred.
  • Required knowledge of skills and abilities related to diversity and cultural competence.
  • Knowledge of own competence in the area of diversity and equity how this influences own behavior and a desire to learn about others identities.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

  • Instructional Design: Prepare course objectives and outlines for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
  • Assessment & Evaluation: Observe and evaluate student performance behavior social development and physical health and report to parents as needed and required.
  • Environment Prep: Prepare materials and classroom for class activities.
  • Program Delivery: Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction demonstration and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe question and investigate.
  • Student Motivation: Use a variety of media and methods in order to motivate students and best utilize available time for instruction.
  • Goal Participation: Participate in the development and revision of goals and performance objectives for students course content and learning activities; evaluate procedures and instructional materials.
  • Record Keeping: Keep attendance and grade records as required by the district.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pedagogy: Deliver personalized student-centered instruction utilizing Capturing Kids Hearts and Restorative Practices.
  • Differentiated Instruction: Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students varying needs and interests.
  • Objective Communication: Establish clear objectives for all lessons units and projects and communicate those objectives to the students.
  • Grading & Protocols: Assign and grade classwork and homework adhering to building and district protocols.
  • Progress Tracking: Prepare administer and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students progress.
  • Staff Collaboration: Collaborate with other professional staff to enhance instruction and adapt and modify curriculum in order to meet individual student needs.
  • PLC Engagement: Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and staff meetings to analyze data and improve student outcomes.
  • Compliance: Actively participate in the districts teacher evaluation process and fulfill all state-mandated effectiveness reporting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Hearing: Must be able to hear and respond to student inquiries safety alarms and emergency intercom announcements. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
  • Vision: Must have close vision distance vision and peripheral vision to monitor student behavior and safety across large areas (classrooms athletic fields and hallways). Ability to adjust focus to read printed materials and computer screens.
  • Manual Dexterity: Required to operate standard office and instructional equipment.
  • Mobility: Required to move between classrooms work areas and occasional outdoor settings. Frequently required to stand and walk for the duration of the school day; must be able to move quickly to intervene in student safety situations. Position involves frequent stooping kneeling crouching and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Lifting: Ability to occasionally lift and/or move instructional materials lab equipment or classroom furniture weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Instructional Positioning: Ability to bend stoop and kneel to assist students at their desks or manage classroom technology.
  • Safety & Mental Pacing: Maintain a safe and orderly environment. Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress make quick decisions to ensure student safety and manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptions.
  • Communication: Must be able to speak clearly and audibly to deliver instruction and provide directions during emergency drills.
  • Environmental: Ability to supervise students in various outdoor weather conditions and navigate minor hazards related to technology tools or student projects with standard safety precautions.
