Our client a leading speciality chemical Manufacturing company based in Durban is looking to fill the position of Production Manager.
Purpose of the Role:
The Production Manager will be responsible for the direct management and handling of all production functions at the designated plant facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety:
- Maintain safety work environment by taking action to correct requests for preventative and corrective actions (health / safety committee) and on a daily basis inspect working installations and environment.
- Assist in ensuring a smooth running of the Health / Safety Committee of the plant by ensuring the availability of the required resources.
- Ensure that all applicable training is given to the production personnel.
Quality:
- Keep up to date with all procedures applicable to the production department according to the companys SHEQ standards.
- Collaborate to the development and revision of procedures related to the department.
- Ensure that the production procedures are respected corrective actions taken during non conformity.
- Apply the preventative maintenance system.
- Ensure that the quality control is done on raw materials and finished products.
Environment:
- Implement the procedures of the environmental management program applicable to this activity sector.
- Collaborate to the development and revision of procedures related to the department.
- Ensure training related to the environmental management programme is conducted.
Planning:
- Ensure efficient planning of resources (raw materials personnel equipment) according to the production schedule.
Production:
- Maintain product availability at a minimum cost while increasing the productivity and aiming for constant improvement.
- Ensure the implementation of the solutions and corrective actions.
Human Resources:
- Manage the work teams (performance evaluations delegation training implication in problem solving and decision making).
- Clearly define and assign the duties and responsibilities and the authorities of all staff.
- All staff members must be in possession of clearly defined MBOs and a detailed job description.
- Conduct yearly performance appraisals with each subordinate on a yearly basis to be used in measuring performance and identifying training needs.
- Ensure the selection and recruiting of new staff is in line with the current Employment Equity.
Logistics:
- Ensure that all raw materials intermediate goods packaging and finished products are used and stored to prevent any loss.
Other Principal Accountabilities:
- Participate to the development and implementation of equipment purchase or equipment modification projects to the investment plan established in collaboration with the Quality Assurance and Project Manager.
- Collaborate with persons in charge if other related departments to maximize the responsibility of the operations group.
- Ensure that the warehouse is stocked as required.
- Complete and process the difference forms related to the tasks.
- Participate to different task forces (Health and Safety Committee LET QA and Environmental Management Review Team).
- Perform any other related tasks while respecting the companys LLC quality assurance procedures.
General :
- Undertake such additional duties which may from time to time be assigned to the employee in the discharge of his / her duties.
- Ensure that a correct and proper image of the company is always maintained.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Grade 12 Senior Certificate / Matric
- NQF 6 Production Management / Operations Management Degree
- 5-10 in a senior role within a Manufacturing Environment
Special Requirements:
- Regular and on time attendance
- Will be required to work overtime
- Overseas travel may be required.
