About the opportunity
The Accessibility Adviser provides a comprehensive range of services to students with disclosed disability and/or health conditions (including mental health). The Accessibility Adviser provides advice and recommendations to the University community with the aim of assisting students to successfully participate in their university study.
What youll do:
- Assist in the provision of a comprehensive range of services for students with a disability/health conditions throughout the student lifecycle including the development of a Learning Access Plan (LAP) for the purpose of detailing appropriate study adjustments and overseeing the endtoend process for student accessibility arrangements.
- Provide expert advice and leadership in the development and review of policy processes and procedures relating to equitable access to learning for students with a disability/health condition.
- Provide information advice and appropriate referral where necessary to other University and community-based services this may include individual discussions with staff to problem-solve issues.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate and implement individual support arrangements workshops programs and initiatives for students with disability/accessibility needs in multiple formats.
- Oversight of the day-to-day running of the Professional Note Taking Service including managing referrals requests and complaints engaging in continuous improvement and line-management of casual staff.
- Increase awareness for staff and students and provide specialist advice about inclusive teaching and learning practices including the development of practical resources workshops and information sessions for staff and by providing leadership in inclusive education including Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
What were looking for:
- A degree combined with several years subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including negotiation mediation collaboration influence and conflict resolution skills with a demonstrated ability to work positively and constructively with students internal and external stakeholders and within a team.
- Demonstrated experience working with a diverse range of people including those living with disability and/or mental health conditions.
- A very high standard of written and oral communication skills demonstrated through effective interaction with people in educational or similar institutions.
- Familiarity with and knowledge of the higher education environment and factors impacting upon student academic success including a deep understanding of the functional impact of disability and an ability to work strategically to overcome barriers to access.
- Experience in managing complex enquiries and problems and the capacity to exercise judgement in more complex and sensitive issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of national Disability Legislation and relevant equity policies and capacity to apply this knowledge in the tertiary environment.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 7 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $130943 comprising base salary within the range of $101821 to $111917 plus 17% superannuation.
