Fountain Tire is looking for a Payroll Specialist to join the team at our South Edmonton Corporate Office!
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for executing bi-weekly Store Mining Retread and Supply payroll administration including senior level payroll support to Store Operations Managers and Associates; monthly and year-end reconciliation; reporting and HRIS system administration.
This is a temporary position for maternity leave coverage with an expected duration of March 2026 until May 2027

Duties and responsibilities will include:
- Processing bi-weekly Store and Mining payroll in an accurate and timely manner and according to company policy and procedures; this includes completing the necessary process controls (i.e. checks and balances) to ensure completeness and accuracy of payroll transactions and all year-end reporting.
- Respond to a variety of queries from Operations Team Store managers Associates and government agencies; directly escalating issues to the appropriate members of the Finance Safety or Human Resource team.
- Facilitate payroll functions in relation to new hires terminations transfers leaves job changes and rate changes.
- Prepare biweekly journal entries and upload to the ERP system.
- Audit bi-weekly payroll transactions to ensure accuracy is maintained and required tasks are completed.
- Complete monthly account reconciliations including but not limit to payroll clearing and vacation variances.
- Calculate and remit Workers Compensation and other Employer taxes (EHT) premiums to the applicable provincial agencies including account registration and maintenance.
- Review and complete all year-end tasks: T4 review and balancing CPP/EI reconciliation; WCB and EHT year-end filing T4 filing and T4 distribution.
- Participate in the investigation and resolution of complex non-routine problems.
- Ensure integrity and security of associate data; ensure associate files meet CRA privacy & internal audit standards and that corporate filing is kept current.
- Provide back up in regards to Garnishment Orders and payment to third party agencies and stakeholders.
- Participate in the documentation and creation of current and best practices in relation to payroll administration and research current legislation to ensure compliance is maintained.
- Review of current processes and provide support to management in developing process and system efficiencies.
- Work with the Finance department to facilitate resolution to payroll related transaction variances.
- Participate in special projects and perform other related duties as assigned.
To succeed in this role we are seeking a candidate with the following knowledge skills and experience:
- Diploma in Business Administration and a minimum of 3-5 years of payroll experience in a multi-provincial environment; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Completion of the Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification is required.
- Experience with UKG would be considered a definite asset.
- Proficient in processing payroll and year-end procedures using payroll systems with strong Excel proficiency and formal training in accounting principles. Familiarity with HRIS would be considered an asset.
- Knowledgeable in cross-provincial legislation and employment standards demonstrating confidentiality and excellent problem-solving skills.
- Adept at building relationships to resolve payroll issues with attention to detail.
