The TVS/FLS Mechanical Manager is responsible for leading the design coordination and delivery of Tunnel Ventilation Systems (TVS) and Fire & Life Safety (FLS) systems across complex transit and infrastructure projects. This role provides technical oversight of multidisciplinary engineering teams ensuring all designs calculations and specifications meet safety performance and client standards.
This role drives the development and review of Bills of Quantities conducts rigorous quality checks and leads stakeholder engagement with clients consultants and contractors to resolve design and construction issues.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Design Oversight
- Lead and oversee the development and execution of Tunnel Ventilation Systems (TVS) and Fire & Life Safety (FLS) designs.
- Perform comprehensive technical reviews and duediligence checks of designs prepared by subconsultants or clients to ensure compliance with Client output specifications and adherence to safety and performance standards.
- Review and validate engineering specifications and calculations including fire detection alarm systems fire suppression tunnel ventilation and smoke management for tunnels and stations.
- Contribute to the development of design optimizations and technically robust alternatives to enhance system performance and cost efficiency.
Quantity Development & Quality Assurance
- Develop Bills of Quantities including quantity generation for TVS/FLS components and verification of quantities prepared by subconsultants.
- Conduct rigorous quality checks to ensure accuracy completeness and alignment with project requirements.
Project Coordination & Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate and lead project-specific meetings with clients engineering consultants contractors and other stakeholders to address and resolve TVS/FLS design and construction-related issues.
- Work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary project environment maintaining regular communication with the broader project team to identify needs evaluate alternatives and ensure integration of TVS/FLS requirements across all disciplines.
Schedule Management & Deliverable Oversight
- Manage workload distribution and support timely completion of deliverables to meet project deadlines.
- Track progress against the design schedule reviewing and approving tasks to ensure on-time submissions and adherence to project milestones.
Qualifications :
- Bachelors Degree in Civil Mechanical Industrial or Architectural Engineering or related field.
- MS degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred.

- 5-7 years of professional experience in Tunnel Ventilation System and/or Fire Life Safety design.
- Knowledge and practical experience in Autodesk Environment (Autocad Revit BIM360 etc.) is an asset.
- Knowledge and practical experience in 1D and 3D computational fluid modelling software (CFD) preferred.
- Experience with fluid mechanics and fire or ventilation modelling.
- Previous experience managing external or internal teams.
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards.
- Demonstrated qualities of leadership proactivity and commitment.
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must possess strong attention to detail and can work in a fast-paced environment; eagerness to learn and apply engineering skills to develop creative problem-solving designs/ideas.
- Strong commitment to high standards integrity and ethics.
