About the role

The Conservation Programs Branch of National Parks and Wildlife Service is seeking a Manager for the Invasive Species Unit. The NPWS Invasive Species Unit provides strategic direction coordination and best practice specialist support to invasive species management across NSW national parks to deliver demonstrated conservation and biosecurity outcomes in collaboration with government and non-government partners. The unit supports the safe and compliant delivery of risk-based data driven programmes that allow for adaptive management and build organisational capability.

As the Manager you will lead a geographically dispersed team while being accountable for supporting the coordination of feral animal and weed control programs state-wide and planning for emerging biosecurity threats to NPWS reserves. This includes

development and maintenance of policy procedure standards and protocols coordination of monthly business reporting implementation of feral animal and weed management strategies coordination of specialist resources to support aerial control planning and preparedness for NPWS response to emerging biosecurity threats capability development and support to the NPWS executive and government with advice and support for sometimes politically and environmentally sensitive issues.

About You

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Extensive experience in leading strategic programs in conservation particularly in the management of threats such as feral animals weeds and other biosecurity matters.
  • Experience representing a government agency at high level industry and public forums to foster effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Detailed understanding of government processes policy and procedures including their application to ecological management and conservation.

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience in invasive species management programs.
  • Drivers licence
