The Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung (IKZ) is a leading research institution in the field of science & technology as well as service & transfer of crystalline materials. Our goal is to enable solutions for pressing societal challenges (e.g. communication artificial intelligence climate protection health etc.) through modern electronic & photonic technologies. The work covers the entire spectrum from basic and applied research to pre-industrial development and is carried out in cooperation with national and international partners from universities academies and industry. The institute is part of the Forschungsverbund Berlin ( and a member of the Leibniz Association (). You can find more details on the institute webpage: .
The Leibniz-Institut für Kristallzüchtung invites applications for a
Post-doctoral Researcher (m/f/d)
position. The successful candidate will contribute to an exciting research program focused on
Improving the thermo-optical properties of Ge single crystals for Infrared applications
The demand for infrared (IR) optical technologies is rapidly increasing across various sectors. At present Germanium (Ge) single crystals are widely used as key lens materials due to their high refractive index and low dispersion. However Ge lenses face significant challenges arising from their high thermo-optical coefficient which leads to optical aberrations and image degradation at elevated this AiF/ZIM project funded within the framework of BMWK 22 the aim is to develop Ge crystals with engineered properties to enhance the opto-thermal stability. Based on these materials optical lenses will be fabricated in collaboration with an industrial partner.
Position Overview
The position focuses on advanced research in Ge crystal growth with particular emphasis on specific doping processes. State-of-the-art Czochralski (Cz) pullers are available within the research group for this purpose. Part of the work will include characterization of the crystals to assess their structural and optical properties. The project will be carried out in co-operation with industry and international partners requiring regular scientific exchange to ensure its success. This will also include joint meetings as well as publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals and conferences. Additional responsibilities may include mentoring graduate and undergraduate students and contributing to the development of grant proposals and project reports.
