Position SummaryThe Food Service Director provides strategic leadership operational oversight and regulatory compliance for all school nutrition programs at The Maritime Academy of Toledo (TMAT). This role ensures the delivery of safe nutritious and appealing meals in full compliance with USDA National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) Food Service Director supervises food service staff manages daily operations and budgets ensures audit-ready compliance and supports TMATs mission by promoting student wellness equitable meal access and nutrition education. This position requires strong leadership attention to detail and a high level of & Responsibilities Lead and supervise all food service operations including breakfast lunch snack and special meal programs. Directly supervise schedule train and evaluate food service staff; enforce standards for safety sanitation customer service and professionalism. Ensure full compliance with USDA NSLP ODEW and health department regulations. Prepare submit and maintain accurate timely and audit-ready documentation for NSLP Administrative Reviews ODEW Procurement Reviews and health inspections. Serve as the primary liaison with ODEW health departments vendors and regulatory agencies. Develop and manage the food service budget procurement processes vendor contracts inventory and cost controls. Ensure accurate meal counts reimbursement claims production records HACCP plans and food safety logs. Develop compliant menus that meet nutritional cultural and student needs including accommodations for allergies and medical requirements. Oversee food safety practices kitchen operations equipment maintenance and emergency procedures. Collaborate with school leadership and families to support student health wellness initiatives and community Qualifications Bachelors degree in Nutrition Dietetics Food Service Management Hospitality Management Public Health or related field or equivalent professional experience. 35 years of progressive food service experience including supervisory responsibilities. Demonstrated knowledge of USDA Child Nutrition Programs NSLP ODEW regulations and state/federal procurement laws. Ohio Manager (Level 2) Food Protection Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days. Strong leadership organizational communication and time-management skills. Proven ability to manage compliance reporting audits deadlines and corrective actions. Proficiency with meal counting systems point-of-sale platforms and reporting software. Successful completion of Ohio BCI and FBI background Qualifications Masters degree in Nutrition Food Service Management Educational Leadership or Public Administration. School Food Service Director Certification or equivalent credential. Experience leading NSLP administrative reviews and ODEW procurement audits. Prior leadership in K12 school nutrition programs. Experience with farm-to-school initiatives local sourcing or nutrition education programs. Strong analytical skills related to participation trends cost control and reimbursement optimization. Experience working in high-accountability educational Demands Prolonged standing walking bending and lifting during the school day. Ability to lift and carry items up to 40 pounds. Regular exposure to kitchen environments food service equipment and cleaning chemicals. Frequent movement between kitchen cafeteria storage and office areas.
