The Opportunity

Wayman Education is seeking a highly experienced and leadership-ready Senior Science Technician for an immediate start at a prestigious school in the heart of Westminster. This is a pivotal role requiring a blend of technical expertise and organizational leadership to oversee a busy high-performing science department.

The Role

As the Senior Technician you will lead the technical support team and manage the day-to-day operations of the schools laboratories. You will act as the primary advisor to the Head of Science on health and safety budget management and the implementation of complex practicals for GCSE and A-Level.

Key Responsibilities:

• Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor junior technicians coordinating their workloads to ensure all practical requirements are met across the department.

• Health & Safety Oversight: Act as the departmental lead for H&S ensuring all risk assessments are up to date and that the department remains fully compliant with CLEAPSS and COSHH regulations.

• Resource Management: Oversee the science budget managing the procurement of equipment and chemicals while maintaining an accurate centralized inventory.

• Advanced Technical Support: Prepare and trial complex demonstrations for A-Level Biology Chemistry and Physics ensuring high-level accuracy for required practicals.

• Laboratory Development: Lead on the modernization of prep rooms and the implementation of new digital data-logging equipment in practical lessons.

Requirements

• Significant experience as a Science Technician with a proven track record of supporting A-Level practicals.

• A degree in a Science-related discipline or equivalent high-level technical qualification.

• Comprehensive knowledge of CLEAPSS COSHH and the legal requirements for school laboratories.

• Previous experience in a supervisory or senior capacity is highly desirable.

• Excellent organizational and communication skills with the ability to lead a team under pressure.
