A Harness Build Technician fabricates installs and tests complex electrical wiring harnesses connectors and cable assemblies for automotive aerospace or industrial applications. They interpret engineering schematics perform precision crimping soldering and splicing and ensure compliance with quality standards like IPC/WHMA-A-620. This hands-on role requires high manual dexterity attention to detail and troubleshooting skills to resolve assembly issues
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication: Cut strip crimp solder and terminate wires to assemble harnesses based on schematics drawings and pinout tables.
Assembly: Route wires on harness boards apply connectors heat shrink braiding and lacing for protection.
Testing: Conduct continuity resistance and hi-pot (high potential) testing to ensure functionality.
Quality & Documentation: Adhere to IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards maintain 5S workspace organization and document build steps/: Identify and resolve electrical or mechanical failures in harness assemblies.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Technical Knowledge: Strong ability to read and interpret wiring schematics diagrams and connector datasheets.
Manual Dexterity: Precision skills for working with small-gauge wire connectors and soldering tools.
Tools: Experience with hand/pneumatic crimpers soldering irons heat guns and wire stripping tools.
Physical Requirements Ability to stand for long periods lift moderate weights and work in varied environments (lab production floor).
Excellent color vision (crucial for identifying wire color codes).
