Job Summary

Job Description L2 Nutanix Administrator

Role Overview : The L2 Nutanix Administrator is responsible for managing monitoring and troubleshooting Nutanix clusters and virtualized environments. The role involves handling day-to-day operations resolving L2-level issues supporting upgrades backup/DR activities and coordinating with L3 support when required.

1. Nutanix Cluster Administration

Manage and monitor Nutanix clusters using Prism Element and Prism Central
Perform node additions expansions and removals
Monitor cluster health storage utilization and handle alerts

2. Virtualization & VM Operations

Manage virtual machines on AHV ESXi or Hyper-V running on Nutanix
Perform VM provisioning migration cloning snapshots and power operations
Troubleshoot VM performance and resource allocation issues

3. System Troubleshooting (L2 Level)

Handle cluster alerts and performance degradation issues
Diagnose issues related to:
- Storage: CVM Disk Metadata Stargate Curator
- Networking: AHV networking VLANs Load Balancing
- Hypervisors: AHV / ESXi
Escalate and coordinate with Nutanix Support (L3) when required

4. Nutanix AOS & Firmware Updates

Perform AOS upgrades LCM firmware updates and NCC checks
Ensure proper planning validation and documentation before upgrades

5. Backup & DR Management

Manage backups using:
- Nutanix Data Protection (Async/Sync DR)
- Protection Domains
- Snapshots and Replication
Support DR failover and failback testing

6. Monitoring & Reporting

Monitor performance metrics such as IOPS latency and capacity usage
Generate weekly cluster health and utilization reports

7. Networking & Security

Manage AHV networking (Bridges OVS VLANs)
Support micro-segmentation (Nutanix Flow) if enabled
Maintain security and compliance baselines

8. Documentation & SOP Creation

Maintain SOPs for operational and escalation procedures
Document cluster configurations change management and RCA reports

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Skills

Strong hands-on experience with Nutanix AOS Prism Central and Prism Element
Good knowledge of AHV VMware ESXi or Hyper-V
Experience with:
- CVM troubleshooting
- Nutanix services (Genesis Stargate Curator Cassandra Prism services)
- Data Resiliency (RF2 / RF3)
- LCM and NCC
Good understanding of:
- Storage concepts (IOPS replication snapshots)
- Virtualization (CPU memory over-commitment)
- Networking (VLANs LACP OVS bridges)

Soft Skills

Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Ability to work in 24/7 shifts (if required)
Good communication and documentation skills
Ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams and vendors.
