The Office Manager / Civil Engineer / Team Leader will manage a 15-person office including civil site engineers in-house land surveyors and administrative personnel. The role combines technical leadership staff management and business operations to ensure high-quality service delivery profitable operations and a positive office culture and environment.
Key responsibilities
- Lead mentor and manage a team of approximately 15 staff including engineers surveyors and administrative personnel.
- Oversee all civil site engineering operations for the Harrisonburg office ensuring quality efficiency and adherence to design schedules and budgets.
- Provide technical oversight and guidance on land development projects including rezonings conceptual planning site layout grading utilities stormwater management and related civil design.
- Oversee the work of the Survey Manager providing in-house land surveying activities to support design and entitlement efforts.
- Manage office financials providing fee proposals budgeting forecasting invoicing resource planning and performance tracking.
- Serve as a key member of the companys Operations Management Team contributing to firm-wide planning process improvements and strategic initiatives.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships including regular client communication and responsiveness.
- Lead business development efforts for the office including identifying opportunities networking and expanding client relationships.
- Prepare and review proposals scopes of work and fee estimates for land development and related civil engineering projects and services.
- Oversee contract administration including negotiation support compliance with contract requirements and management of subconsultants as needed.
- Review and approve technical deliverables such as reports plans calculations and specifications to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Promote a positive and collaborative office culture.
Qualifications
- BS in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or ability to obtain reciprocity in Virginia within a reasonable timeframe.
- Significant experience (typically 8 years) in civil/site land development design and project management.
- Demonstrated experience leading teams or managing an engineering group office or practice area.
- Proven track record in client development proposal preparation and successful project delivery.
- Strong understanding of project financials budgeting and resource management.
- Excellent communication leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Ability to balance hands-on technical involvement with higher-level strategic and operational responsibilities.
