Project Overview
Client is seeking a System Engineer to support and troubleshoot a Windows-based server environment. This role has end-to-end responsibility for server operations in a 24x7 enterprise setting supporting approximately 200 servers. The position is primarily remote with occasional onsite work in Chicago and includes an overnight on-call rotation.
Key Responsibilities
- Own day-to-day server operations including OS hardware patching firmware BIOS and service packs
- Maintain server stability performance and availability in a 24x7x365 environment
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across Windows Server SCCM SCOM VMware and related platforms
- Support Windows Server Failover Clustering and clustered server environments
- Monitor systems perform root cause analysis and participate in incident and problem management
- Implement releases upgrades patches and configuration changes
- Ensure enterprise security standards and compliance are maintained
- Provide technical input for lifecycle planning capacity planning and system tuning
- Participate in change management and on-call rotation including occasional night work
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science IT or related field or equivalent technical training and experience
- 3 5 years of IT experience supporting large enterprise or data center environments
- Senior-level experience troubleshooting Windows Server operating systems (Windows)
- Experience supporting large server environments and geographically distributed systems
Technical & Soft Skills
Required Technical Skills:
- Microsoft System Center: SCCM SCOM Orchestrator
- Windows Server administration and troubleshooting
- Windows Server Failover Clustering
- VMware
- PowerShell or other scripting experience
- Patch management for standalone and clustered servers
- Microsoft infrastructure services (DNS DHCP Hyper-V)
- Load balancing technologies (F5)
- Disaster Recovery (D/R) experience
Nice to Have:
- ServiceNow experience
- Microsoft certifications (MCP MCTP-EA MCSE MCSA)
Soft Skills:
- Strong troubleshooting mindset
- Ability to handle repetitive operational work
- Strong work ethic
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Experience with ITIL and change management processes
