We are seeking a highly proficient and experienced Structural Steel Fitter to lead the fabrication and assembly of complex structural components for major construction and industrial projects. The ideal candidate will leverage advanced skills in blueprint analysis precision measurement and fitting techniques to ensure all work meets stringent quality and safety standards. This role involves supervision and requires the ability to troubleshoot complex challenges mentor junior staff and collaborate effectively with project managers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Blueprint and Specification Mastery: Interpret and analyze shop drawings blueprints (including isometric and orthographic projections) and project specifications to determine material requirements task sequences and optimal fitting methods.
- Layout and Measurement: Accurately lay out reference points and patterns on heavy metal components accounting for material properties stock thickness and welding shrinkage.
- Complex Assembly and Fitting: Position align and fit large-scale steel components (beams columns frames etc.) using various tools like jacks turnbuckles wedges drift pins and rigging equipment.
- Operation of Heavy Machinery: Safely and efficiently operate a wide array of machinery and tools including saws laser plasma cutters press brakes overhead cranes hoists and forklifts.
- Welding and Fabrication Expertise: Perform advanced fitting and tack welding and when necessary full welding using various techniques (MIG TIG Stick FCAW) to secure components ensuring robust joint integrity per American Welding Society (AWS) or other applicable standards.
- Quality Control and Inspection: Conduct rigorous quality control inspections on fabricated components and assemblies to verify conformance with tight tolerances and engineering standards making adjustments as needed. (WABO)
- Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting: Proactively identify and resolve discrepancies between blueprints and actual materials or unforeseen issues during assembly minimizing rework and waste.
