Job Summary

  1. Technical Analyst Location: USA

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Senior Technical Analyst with 7 years of experience to bridge scientific assay development and modern cloud/DevOps practices. You will partner with scientists and vendors to configure assays design plate layouts and operationalize robust scalable data and infrastructure workflows. You will lead initiatives using AWS Terraform CI/CD (GitHub Actions) and Python to build reproducible environments automate pipelines and ensure quality compliance and traceability across the assay lifecycle. A core focus of this role is designing and developing secure scalable APIs to integrate vendor systems with Merck data lakes.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead collaboration with scientists and vendors to configure assays define experimental parameters and translate laboratory needs into technical requirements and reproducible workflows.

Own the assay development lifecycle: protocol configuration versioning validation support change control and documentation.

Architect and maintain plate layout mapping solutions (well addressing control placement randomized assignments) and metadata schemas; establish standards and templates.

Design implement and manage AWS infrastructure using Terraform (modular repositories environments CI-driven plan/apply policy-as-code) with a focus on scalability security and cost control.

Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions for automated testing deployment and environment provisioning; introduce pipeline governance secrets management and reusable workflows.

Design develop and maintain APIs and integration services to ingest and synchronize data from vendor systems into Merck data lakes:

o Define API specifications (OpenAPI/Swagger) authentication/authorization (OIDC OAuth2) and rate/throughput requirements

o Implement data validation schema versioning idempotency and error handling with robust observability (logs/metrics/traces)

o Orchestrate secure data landing in S3 and downstream processing (e.g. Glue Lambda Batch/ECS/EKS) with lineage tracking

Develop and maintain Python-based ETL/QC pipelines for ingesting assay outputs applying quality metrics generating reports and integrating data with downstream systems.

Integrate instruments and vendor platforms via APIs/SDKs or secure file exchange; enforce data lineage version control and auditability.

Define and enforce Git/GitHub best practices (branching strategy PR reviews tagging release management); mentor teams on modern DevOps workflows.

Monitor production pipelines and infrastructure perform root-cause analysis and drive reliability engineering (alerting SLOs incident postmortems).

Produce clear technical documentation SOPs and runbooks for assay configuration plate mapping pipelines infrastructure and API integrations.

Partner with QA/Compliance to align with regulatory and data governance requirements (audit trails access controls retention).

Provide training and technical leadership to scientists and cross-functional partners; influence roadmap and prioritization.

Qualifications:

7 years in technical analyst DevOps data engineering or bioinformatics roles supporting laboratory/assay workflows.

Deep hands-on expertise with AWS (S3 EC2 Lambda API Gateway/AppSync Batch/ECS/EKS IAM CloudWatch/CloudTrail networking) and cost/performance optimization.

Advanced Terraform experience: modular design workspaces/state management environment promotion CI-integrated plan/apply and drift detection.

Strong CI/CD experience with GitHub Actions: reusable workflows matrix builds environment protection rules OIDC federation for cloud auth and self-hosted runners.

Proficient Python development (ETL REST APIs/FastAPI or Flask packaging testing/pytest data validation with Pydantic or Marshmallow).

Solid understanding of assay development: configuration parameters controls plate layout design well addressing QC metrics.

Experience integrating laboratory instruments/vendor systems and building secure APIs/ETL to enterprise data lakes; knowledge of data modeling and metadata management.

Expert Git/GitHub skills: trunk-based or Git Flow code reviews versioning tagging and release processes.

Familiarity with containers (Docker) and orchestration (ECS/EKS/Kubernetes) and observability (logs metrics traces).

Strong grounding in cloud security: IAM least privilege secrets management (e.g. AWS Secrets Manager/Parameter Store) encryption (KMS) VPC design and network security.

Excellent communication stakeholder management and leadership; ability to translate scientific needs into reliable technical solutions.

Preferred Skills

LIMS integration and sample tracking.

Data lake/lakehouse experience (e.g. Glue Catalog Lake Formation Athena; Delta/Apache Iceberg) and governance frameworks.

Data visualization/reporting (Plotly Dash) and dashboarding.

Exposure to regulated environments (GxP ISO) and validation practices (CSV).
