Position Title: Community Connection Trainer
Company Description: NAMI San Diego & Imperial Counties (National Alliance on Mental Illness) is a nonprofit organization that provides free education support services and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental health conditions.
Primary Responsibilities/Function:
Serves as a trainer of NAMI Smarts for Advocacy a representative of the program for outreach and support on soliciting engagement from BHS consumers and their families through Peer Council and town halls. The Community Connection Trainer will facilitate NAMI San Diegos Smarts for Advocacy trainings both virtually and in-person. They will also assist with outreach events and volunteer engagement. They will assist with design and creation of town halls per the contract with San Diego County. Assistance with our Peer Council and regularly attending or leading meetings will be expected. Must have excellent interpersonal organizational communication and team building skills. Lived experience with community outreach public speaking and volunteer development as well as behavioral health experience strongly preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Teach Smarts for Advocacy trainings both virtually and in-person throughout the community
- Assists with conducting presentations workshops classes and focus groups with individuals who are consumers of BHSA.
- Participate in community relations efforts including but not limited to supporting and assisting the development community relationships and support of major NAMI San Diego events to meet community awareness goals.
- Assist with outreach recruitment and support of the Peer Council.
- Assist with sourcing speakers and presentations for the Peer Council.
- Assist track data for status reports and quarterly reports.
- Assists in developing community and professional relationships with organizations and peers within the consumer community of BHSA.
- Assist with the planning and event organization of the May Mental Health Wellness celebration.
- Work with communities both on-line and in person to provide resources support and opportunities to give feedback to the County of San Diego BHS.
- Maintain necessary documentation i.e. surveys sign-ins interests lists training certificates monthly reporting to NAMI National weekly monthly and quarterly reports mileage etc.
- Contribute to creating a stigma-free recovery positive person-centered trauma-informed and culturally competent professional presence in the San Diego community at large.
- Increase job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities as required.
- Administrative duties as identified by CAP Program Manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
Accountability: Reports to Program Manager.

Minimum Requirements:
Including linguistic and cultural skills education experiences licenses and certifications
- Reliable and consistent transportation.
- Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency with computer software (Microsoft Office: Outlook Word Excel Teams Zoom) and web navigation.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Reliable and consistent attendance.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and teams plus ability to work as an active collaborator with team members.
- Essential digital experience with online curriculum design facilitation and presentations.
- Experience as a mental health care consumer for self or family member strongly preferred.
- Bi-lingual in English and one of the following threshold languages highly desirable: Spanish Arabic Farsi Tagalog or Vietnamese.
