Job Summary

The Chief Operations Officer (COO) domain builds bridges within ING linking to almost every part of the bank. Its purpose is to drive secure efficient processes for our customers and colleagues.

ING wants to set up a bank-wide COO organisation thats ready for the future with scalable seamless digital and resilient operations. To help us achieve this COO identified three main ways to make the most impact:

  • Building a network organisation: more networking and cross-border collaboration.
  • Consolidating the organisation: share capabilities and services in locations where we can best embed these.
  • Digitalisation/straight-through processing: making our processes end-to-end to provide a seamlessly digital experience for our customers.

Global COO Finance is an independent unit within INGs COO domain reporting hierarchically into INGs Chief Financial Officer and functionally into INGs Chief Operations Officer.

Global COO Finance (COOF) is accountable for designing the global finance operations and technology strategy (together with INGs TECH organisation) and optimising productivity and customer satisfaction in Operations to improve operational efficiency. It is accountable for executing ING Finance and COO strategy to evolve towards one global digital bank is responsible for performance of Operations the operating model decisions on sourcing and all relevant Regulatory and Risk topics.

We translate our rather complex primarily global Wholesale Banking business activities into financial records in line with the latest regulatory and tax requirements. Demand therefore can come from three angles 1) new or changed products/business lines 2) regulators central banks and/or tax authorities and 3) process optimization requests from the end user community. All angles trigger/urge us to analyse the impact and to design test and implement a solution in the processing chain.

In a nutshell for this role it is crucial that you have a mindset for taking it on and making it happen strong analytical capabilities as well as an interest in accountancy processes IT and banking products. You will be involved in complex front-to-end initiatives and act as single point of contact from Finance. Next to the coordination activities you will analyse the processes assess the impact and you will make sure that the business- and user requirements are covered in the change releases. You have a strong drive to learn about the Financial Accounting domain and the tools and techniques under your squads responsibility. Within this position you have either the possibility to develop yourself into a specialist in a certain domain or to develop to a generic profile with managerial responsibilities.

Your key responsibilities

As a business analyst you will be working in a constructive multidisciplinary squad composed of business analysts engineers and a product owner. Together you work on Financial Markets New Products initiatives with the objective to onboard new products to the central Finance environment and improve the current way of processing and reporting.

The squad aims to bring together a deep understanding of the underlying banking business capabilities to translate the business needs into accounting solutions as well as the expertise to implement the solution design for the changes requested in the Finance systems. Together with your squad members you do everything within your power to realize your common mission day by day. More specifically this can contain of the following activities:

Translation of business requirements into Finance user requirements;

Act as single point of contact in front-to-end initiatives;

Coordinate and facilitate activities on squad/tribe and/or program level;

You support the product owner and the squad in managing the backlog by translating epics into features and together with the squad into user stories;

Information/data analysis: you analyse the necessary input output and adjustment of data in the end user processes. You analyse the information need. You investigate the quality of captured data and come up with solutions to improve quality;

Implement and maintain the controls related to minimum accounting standards;

Supporting strategic initiatives to ensure they are delivered in a timely manner e.g. by executing functional acceptance and migration testing;

Translate (solution) designs into IT solutions by closely working together with IT;

Second line functional support; daily checking of EOD (timeliness correctness completeness of financial/product accounting reporting reconciliations ledger).

You have a proven track record and the following technical and behavioral skills:

  • You Possess a University (Masters) degree in (Management) Accounting & Control Business IT Accountancy or (Business) economics having an exceptional academic track record is a plus.
  • More than ten years experience within the financial industry with knowledge of Wholesale Banking product accounting concepts;
  • Understanding and knowledge of banking processes;
  • Knowledge of (complex) Financial Markets products;
  • Knowledge of (product) Accounting concepts;
  • Knowledge of Hedge Accounting concepts is a plus;
  • Knowledge of FMGT FrontOffice and BackOffice systems is a plus (like Murex Summit Sophis and Calypso);
  • Knowledge and experience in working with SQL;
  • Knowledge and experience with making impact analyses and functional designs;
  • Knowledge and experience with creation of test plans and testcases and execution of Functional Acceptance and Migration testing;
  • Maintain based on the product life cycle the event based product accounting specifications for FM & GT products like by example FX MM Swaps Securities and Repo products;
  • Define and maintain non-product related ledger processes and services for example Cost of Funding.
  • Maintain documentation and process descriptions to clarify the working of functionality for end users such as User Manuals and Quick Reference Cards;
  • Maintain the book/organisational structure during the onboarding of new portfolios;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Affinity with IT and innovation;
  • Comfortable in an Agile way of working environment and able to quickly adopt AWOW techniques and tooling in your day-to-day activities;
  • Good communication skills with the ability to quickly build relationships with your (international) stakeholders;
  • Excellent communication skills in oral and written English.
  • You actively ask for help and feedback and are not afraid to give feedback.

  • Has a customer focus and is result-driven;
