What Youll Be Doing

The Energy Infrastructure & Transition (EIT) team provides investment banking services to existing and prospective clients in the infrastructure renewable and conventional power utilities midstream upstream energy energy transition and climate technology sectors. The team has a global coverage strategy across North America Europe Latin America Asia and Australia. Our client-centric approach incorporates M&A and other financial advisory services with full access to the debt equity and loan capital markets. The team also delivers complex risk and hedging solutions to clients. The EIT team manages a market leading platform from our offices in Toronto New York Houston Calgary London and Bogota.

The teams coverage mandate includes infrastructure (airports roads ports rail and logistics digital) renewable and conventional power (solar wind hydro biomass natural gas and storage) utility and utility infrastructure (regulated utilities district energy) energy transition (hydrogen CCUS biofuels climate technology) midstream and upstream oil and gas. The EIT team supports our clients through a variety of transactions including M&A capital structure and strategic advisory equity and debt capital financings and tax equity transactions. Through such transactions our specialized global platform and subject matter expertise enables us to help our clients meet their goals.

As part of the EIT team you will gain exposure to working with individuals from various groups across the firm. A team approach to executing coverage and financing assignments is designed to provide progressive on-the-job training. The role of a Director within CIBCs EIT Group is challenging and fast-paced. It requires dedication a passion for excellence and an exceptional work ethic.

The role is based in Toronto and the primary sector focus is on infrastructure. The EIT team is committed to supporting CIBCs clients to grow and maximize the value of their infrastructure portfolio investments through M&A and by optimizing financing structures and appropriately hedging risks. .

The expected annualized base salary for this role is $165000.

The base salary is determined by a variety of factors including the candidates skills experience and job-related knowledge as well as geographic location and specific business needs. Our compensation philosophy supports ongoing growth and development enabling progression within the salary range as team members advance in their roles.

In addition to base pay compensation for this roleincludes participation in an annual discretionary incentive orbonus program.

How Youll Succeed

The primary roles and responsibilities for the Director position include supporting pitch development preparation of client deliverables including oversight of the development of financial models and presentations mentoring and directing junior professionals and supporting senior professionals in business development and transaction execution activities.

  • Client proposals Support in origination and assist in developing proposals to clients and potential clients for equity and debt placements mergers asset or company divestitures or acquisitions and other financial products and advisory services. Additionally participation in cross-functional teams and liaise with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in executing mandates or preparing proposals for clients. (ie. leading execution for complex private and public market M&A)

  • Financial modeling provide oversight for the development and auditing of sophisticated financial models.

  • Research Conduct industry research and analysis to assist in the identification and/or analysis of investment banking business opportunities.

  • Analysis Lead industry comparable value and transaction precedent analyses. Prepare industry and financial analysis to determine client recommendations.

  • Due diligence Assist in company due diligence investigations.

  • Prospectus and Confidential Information Memoranda Prepare offering memoranda and marketing materials while assisting with prospectus drafting.

  • Mentorship and training Mentor train and guide junior professionals for the relevant projects and work functions.

  • Relationship Building Take advantage of in-depth technical and industry knowledge as well as the geopolitical environment to generate ideas/opportunities that can be discussed with the relevant relationship manager and/or deal/coverage team. Coordinate client-focused and/or deal-focused brainstorming sessions with relevant team members and product specialists. Liaise with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in preparing proposals for clients. Develop relationships and actively communicate with various appropriate contacts at the client. Develop and maintain an internal network with product groups other business groups etc. Develop and maintain an external network with the market (i.e. key stakeholders prospects etc.) and support CIBCs image through involvement in community activities.

  • Client Engagement Play an active role in the execution of client mandates. Conduct deal-related due diligence activities and present findings internally. Participate in developing investor presentation materials and in road show marketing activities. Work with outside working group members including legal advisors accounting advisors auditors etc. Responsible for the overall information and communication flow on deal teams.

Who You Are

  • You are success oriented. Extremely dedicated and motivated individual with high career aspirations. Must be capable of assuming high levels of responsibility within short time frames. Success to you is helping to develop solutions for and execute the complex financial and strategic needs of our clients.

  • You have completed relevant education. Finance accounting mathematics computer science or economics undergraduate CPA or CFA designations are also appreciated.

  • You have 5 years of industry experience in one or more of M&A investment banking EIT corporate finance and/or private equity. Experience with meaningful financial analysis is required. Detailed professional-level knowledge of the Canadian energy and/or Infrastructure sector is preferred.

  • You can demonstrate technical skills (programs methodologies systems). Excellent analytical abilities including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices. Knowledge of accounting principles relating to financial statement preparation and business combinations. Strong technical skills as it relates to Microsoft Office applications (Excel Word PowerPoint). Experience is appreciated as it relates to industry technology (Bloomberg & FactSet).

  • Youre motivated by collective success. Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills in order to develop manage and leverage relationships with clients and internal and/or external business partners. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills sufficient to provide detailed explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas related to complex technical and conceptual issues. Unquestioned professionalism ethics and reputation and proven ability to exercise strong independent judgment when making business decisions and/or representing CIBC Capital Markets.
